BIG O IS HAVING A SPELL
OVER
THE
FESTIVE SEASON AND WILL
RESUME BIGGER AND BETTER
IN THE
AUTUMN
Monday,
11 November
Prince Georgios
had shown at two starts this preparation that he was getting
very close to a win and that proved to be true at Pinjarra
on Sunday as the gelding scored his first win in the T & G
Cabinets Mdn Stks (1500m).
In other results, Hosannah finished 11th in the Group
1 Emirates Stks (1600m) at Flemington on Saturday. Factional
ran third in the Ashby Doble Bali Volunteers Transitional
Hcp (1800m) at Randwick on Saturday. Couverture made
a solid debut at Geelong on Saturday, finishing 4th, beaten
only 3/4 of a length in the Lalor Lucky Lotto Mdn Plte (1118m).
Little Oh ran 9th in the Panthers Rendezvous Heat-C2
(1400m) at Goulburn on Friday. Occidental has been
very consistent during his 8 start career, being placed 6
times and he looks well placed in the Dec 14, Xmas Giddy-Up
Raceday (1900m) at Canterbury on Wednesday. Last start, Occidental
finished second at Canterbury on 24th October over the same
distance. Darren Beadman will ride from barrier 9.
At the Rosehill trials on Tuesday, Chastise and Rutched
will contest heat 1, Euripedes - heat 4 and Ordenes
- heat 6. The Randwick trials on Friday will see Ochil
Hills run in heat 4 and Galapagos in heat 11.
Friday,
8 November
Connections
of Hosannah will be looking for the mare to return
to top form in the Group 1 Emirates Stks (1600m) at Flemington
on Saturday. Hosannah finished 9th at Flemington last Saturday
in the Nestle Classic (1600m) and three starts ago won at
the same track on 5th October. Brendan Fenech has returned
from riding in Sydney and has the ride from barrier 7. Factional
stomed home from 12th on the turn last start to run second
in the Belle of the Turf (1600m) at Gosford on 17th October
and a repeat of that effort will see her go very close to
getting the cash in the Ashby Doble Bali Volunteers Transitional
Hcp (1800m) at Randwick on Saturday. Darren Beadman will ride
from barrier 6. Couverture will be making her debut
on Saturday at Geelong in the Lalor Lucky Lotto Mdn Plte (1118m).
The three-year-old filly has not been seen at the official
trials, so she will be watched with interest. Mark Flaherty
has the ride from barrier 7. Prince Georgios is very
close to a win and it may well be in the T & G Cabinets Mdn
Stks (1500m) at Pinjarra on Sunday. The gelding finished second
last start at Northam on 27th October at his second run back
from a spell. Patrick Carbery has the ride from barrier 12.
Little Oh ran very well first-up when second at Albury
on 21st October and with added fitness the gelding will be
strongly favoured in the Panthers Rendezvous Heat-C2 (1400m)
at Goulburn on Friday. Andrew Bloomfield will ride from barrier
5. Racing on Thursday saw Hierogram finish 6th in the
Group 1 Crown - V.R.C. Oaks (2500m) at Flemington, after leading
until halfway down the straight. Provokes ran a nice
third in The Moet & Chandon (1400m) at Flemington - racing
handily during the event. Christomel resumed with a
12th in the Wizard - Penrith Mdn Hcp (1400m) at Hawkesbury.
Regal State finished 5th at his second career start
in the Auburn Soccer Sports Club Mdn Hcp (1200m) at Hawkesbury.
Wednesday,
6 November
Eviotis joined the ranks
of Octagonal-sired winners with a 3/4-length victory in the
Pat Kohut Mdn Hcp (1350m) at Ipswich on Wednesday. The gelding
raced in the first two or three for the duration of the race
and scored convincingly after being sent out favourite. In
other results from midweek racing, Evander ran a nice
third in the Listed Hong Kong Jockey Club Plte (1800m) at
Flemington. Bright Eyed Boy finished 8th in the Mercedes
Benz E-Class Mdn Hcp (1200m) at Eagle Farm on Tuesday. Porteos
ran 7th at Canberra on Tuesday in the FM 104.7 Hcp-C4 (2000m).
Classy Affair was scratched from her event at Te Aroha
on Wednesday. Hierogram has been in tremendous form
of late and she can top it off with victory in the $628000
Group 1 Crown - V.R.C. Oaks (2500m) at Flemington on Thursday.
The filly has won her last three starts - at Canterbury, Caulfield
and the Group 2 Qantas - Wakeful Stks (2000m) last Saturday
at Flemington. This will be Hierogram's first attempt at a
distance beyond 2000m, but her strong finishes at recent starts
indicates that she will have no trouble with the distance.
Darren Beadman will ride from barrier 8. Provokes is
another who has hit top form of late and she looks a good
chance to carry that on in The Moet & Chandon (1400m) at Flemington.
The mare won last start at Randwick on 19th October - her
third win from six starts. Provokes is well-weighted on the
limit of 54kg and will be ridden by Darren Gauci from barrier
13. Christomel has not started since finishing 11th
at Warwick Farm on 12th June and will resume in the Wizard
- Penrith Mdn Hcp (1400m) at Hawkesbury on Thursday. The gelding
has had two barrier trials since then, both at Warwick Farm
- 9th on 27th September and 4th on 18th October. Darryl McLellan
has the ride from barrier 12. Regal State will be having
his second career start in the Auburn Soccer Sports Club Mdn
Hcp (1200m) at Hawkesbury. He debuted at the same track on
20th October, finishing 5th. Darryl McLellan will ride from
barrier 1.
Monday,
4 November
Lonhro once again proved
himself to be one of the stars of the turf with a fast-finishing
victory in the Group 1 Thrifty - Mackinnon Stks (2000m) at
Flemington on Saturday. Darren Beadman was able to have Lonhro
nicely settled in 6th place before making his run late and
claiming victory close to the line. The win was the Octagonal
galloper's third at Group 1 level and takes his record in
all Group events now stands at 10 wins, one second and one
third from 16 starts. His prizemoney now stands at an impressive
$2,235,840. Lonhro will now be spelled and return for the
Autumn carnival riches. Exciting filly Hierogram continued
on her winning way at Flemington on Saturday when she took
out the Group 2 Qantas - Wakeful Stks (2000m), coming from
9th on the turn. She has now won her last three races and
has prizemoney of $237,930. On the basis of this win, Hierogram
will back up in Thursday's Group 1 Crown - V.R.C. Oaks (2500m)
at Flemington. Jewel Time showed that the move to Queensland
has done him the world of good as the gelding won the City
Finance (Tas) Mdn Hcp (1400m) on protest at the Gold Coast
on Saturday. Jewel Time had to be checked near the post, but
successfully protested to break his maiden. Hosannah
finished 9th at Flemington in the Nestle Peters Classic (1600m).
Wolfman finsihed 4th after racing handily in the Triple A
Crash Repairs-C1 (1200m) at Morphettville on Saturday. While
the major focus will be on the Melbourne Cup at Flemington
on Tuesday, Evander will be flying the flag for Octagonal
in the Listed Hong Kong Jockey Club Plte (1800m). The talented
gelding has not been far away at his past few runs, the most
recent of which was a 4th at Randwick on 19th October and
this race is well within his grasp. Darren Beadman will ride
from barrier 5. Eviotis will resume from a spell in
the Pat Kohut Mdn Hcp (1350m) at Ipswich on Wednesday. The
gelding's only run was a 5th at Ipswich on 29th May. He has
since barrier trialled at the Gold Coast on 15th October,
finishing third. Gary Baker has the ride from barrier 2. Porteos
will be stepping up in class in the FM 104.7 Hcp-C4 (2000m)
at Canberra on Tuesday. The mare ran third last start in a
class 1 at Canberra on 13th October, but stuck on well enough
at the staying distance to indicate she will be more than
competitive here. Grant Buckley will ride from barrier 6.
Bright Eyed Boy is another who has performed well since
moving to Queensland and he looks a strong chance in the Mercedes
Benz E-Class Mdn Hcp (1200m) at Eagle Farm on Tuesday. Last
start, the gelding ran the best race of his career in finishing
third at the Sunshine Coast on 29th September. Zac Purton
has the ride from barrier 3. Classy Affair will be
first-up since 29th May in the Grant Pearson Mdn (1350m) at
Paeroa on Wednesday. On that occasion, the mare finished 10th
at Te Awamutu. Classy Affair has drawn ideally in barrier
1 with a jockey yet to be notified.
Thursday,
31 October
Lonhro will back up in
the Thrifty - Mackinnon Stks (2000m) at Flemington on Saturday
after finishing 6th in the Cox Plate at Moonee Valley last
week. Lonhro missed the start in that event and given the
speed of the leaders, was unable to make up the required ground
to overhaul them. While there are several Melbourne Cups contenders
in the Mackinnon, the field is not as strong as the Cox Plate
and with better luck this time around, jockey Darren Beadman
should be able to give Lonhro a settled run. Lonhro has drawn
barrier 6. Hierogram was extremely impressive in winning
by 2 1/4 lengths at Caulfield on 19th October and looks a
strong chance in the Group 2 Qantas - Wakeful Stks (2000m)
at Flemington. The filly has come on in leaps and bounds this
preparation and she could string several wins together. Darren
Beadman will ride from barrier 4. Hosannah steps up
to the 1600m on Saturday in the Nestle Peters Classic (1600m)
at Flemington after her fast-finishing last start 4th in the
Group 3 Tristarc Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on 19th October.
The mare came from 10th on the turn on that occasion and will
get the chance to come from behind here on the long, wide
Flemington straight. Darren Gauci has the ride from barrier
2. Jewel Time finished 9th at the Gold Coast on 19th
October at his first start in Queensland after transferring
from New South Wales and is entered for the City Finance (Tas)
Mdn Hcp (1400m) at the same track on Saturday. The gelding
will be ridden by Daniel Griffin and has drawn barrier 7.
Wolfman recently won a barrier trial at Morphettville
on 14th October and will debut in the Triple A Crash Repairs-C1
(1200m) there on Saturday. The gelding is by Catriona, who
won three races in Adelaide in 1996 including the Morphettville
Plate. He has drawn barrier 12 and will have Darren Holland
in the saddle. O'Mars finished 4th on the Kensington track
on Wednesday in the Rajah Sahib Hcp (2400m).
Monday,
28 October
Lonhro finished a gallant 6th in Saturday's Group 1
Carlton-W.S. Cox Plate (2040m) at Moonee Valley after missing
the start. Trainer John Hawkes said after the race that once
you miss the start in a race like the Cox Plate, it is impossible
to make up the necessary ground, especially with horses like
Sunline leading who like to put on the speed virtually the
whole way. Lonhro has been entered for the Group 1
Mackinnon Stakes at Flemington on Saturday, but a decision
on whether he runs will not be made until the middle of the
week.
In other results, Prince Georgios ran a career best
second in the Avon Valley Contractors Hcp-C1 (1600m) at Northam
on Sunday and has returned from his spell in fine fashion.
A win appears to be not far off for the gelding.
Ares finished 11th in the 2KY Sydney Night Racing Transitional
Hcp (2000m) at Rosehill on Saturday.
Olivia debuted at Queanbeyan on Monday in the www.qracing.com.au
Mdn Hcp (1200m), finishing 13th.
Couverture was scratched from her race at Bendigo on
Sunday.
After being placed at his last two starts at the provincials,
O'Mars has been given the chance to prove himself in
city class in the Rajah Sahib Hcp (2400m) on the Kensington
track on Wednesday. The gelding ran 3rd at Gosford last start
over 2100m on 17th October and has raced over 2400m on one
previous occasion, finishing 5th at Randwick on 1st May. He
has the limit weight of 53kg and will start from barrier 10.
Corey Brown will be aboard.
Friday, 25 October
Lonhro will have the chance to break through the $2m prizemoney
barrier when he contests one of Australia's greatest races
- the Group 1 Carlton-W.S. Cox Plate (2040m) at Moonee Valley
on Saturday. In an even field with many chances despite there
only being nine runners, Lonhro again comes up against Sunline,
who he was able to run down and defeat by a long neck last
start in the Group 1 Caulfield Stakes (2000m) on 12th October.
He meets the mare a half-kilo better here, but has not had
raced at Moonee Valley previously. The other main dangers
include Northerly, winner of last week's Caulfield Cup and
Defier, who has gained a giant killing reputation in Sydney.
The threat of a damp track will not worry Lonhro as he has
won in virtually all conditions. Darren Beadman will ride
from barrier 7. Ares is in the best form of his career
with wins at his last two starts and he looks a good chance
to carry on that form in the 2KY Sydney Night Racing Transitional
Hcp (2000m) at Rosehill on Saturday. The gelding won by two
lengths at Warwick Farm on 17th September over 1600m then
by a neck at Randwick on 7th October over the same distance.
Ares came from 10th on the turn both times and it is likely
he will be racing towards the rear of the field on Saturday
given that he has drawn barrier 14. Visiting Victorian rider
Brendan Fenech has the ride. Prince Georgios was scratched
from Ascot last Wednesday and will instead run in the Avon
Valley Contractors Hcp-C1 (1600m) at Northam on Sunday. The
gelding performed encouragingly at his first run from a spell
last start, finishing 5th beaten only 3.5 lengths at the same
track on 2nd October. Patrick Carbery will ride from barrier
8. Kestrel Call will be resuming from a spell in the 882 6PR
Paul Murray Hcp (1100m) at Ascot on Saturday. The colt's only
start to date was a solid 7th beaten 3.8 lengths at Belmont
Park on 15th June, where he raced handy to the lead. Lucas
Camilleri has the ride from barrier 3 and will claim 1.5kg.
Couverture is a three-year-old filly who will be debuting
in the Richmond Sinnott Delahunty Mdn (1100m) at Bendigo on
Sunday. She is out of the Irish mare Molokai, who unfortunately
died in 2001. Couverture has not been seen at a barrier trial,
but with Octagonal as her sire, a bold run can be expected.
Vincent Hall will ride from barrier 13. Olivia is another
Octagonal youngster who will be having her first start in
the coming days, with the three-year-old filly entered for
the www.qracing.com.au Mdn Hcp (1200m) at Queanbeyan on Monday.
Her dam is Remouche, who won nine races in Sydney from 1993
to 1995. Olivia trailed at Canberra on 20th May, finishing
5th. John Nisbet has the ride from barrier 10. In results
from midweek racing, Sir Henry resumed from a long
spell with a good third in the Peter Doyle Cellars Hcp-C1
(1100m) at Wyong on Wednesday. Eightsome finished 8th
at Matamata in the Sincerity Drycleaners Mdn (1200m) on Wednesday.
Monday, 21 October
Hierogram justified John Hawkes' decision to send the
filly from Sydney to Melbourne with a brilliant 2 1/4 length
win in the Carlton Draught Hcp (2000m) at Caulfield on Saturday.
She stormed home from 8th on the turn and showed that she
has an extremly bright future as a stayer. It has to be remembered
that this was only Hierogram's fifth career start and that
her two starts prior to this were in a Kembla Grange maiden
and a restricted midweek race at Canterbury.
Hosannah again ran on late to grab 4th in the Carlton
- Tristarc Stks (1400m) at Caulfield, coming from 10th on
the turn.
Heptonstall finished 11th in the same event.
Dandyish ran 8th in the AAMI - Norman Robinson Stks (2000m)
at Caulfield.
Evander was 4th beaten only 1.7 lengths in the Matthew
Talbot Hostel Hcp (1600m) at Randwick on Saturday.
Pentathlon ran on from 12th on the turn to finish 8th
in the A.J.C. Convention Centre Hcp (1400m) at Randwick.
Akwendi continued her recent consistent form with a second
in the Mount Lofty Wines Hcp-C1 (2000m) at Hawkesbury on Sunday.
Little Oh ran second in the Sky Channel Pty Ltd Hcp (1175m)
at Albury on Monday.
Grenadier finished 6th in the Sovereign Lager-Belgravia
Stks (1200m) at Ascot on Saturday.
Jewel Time finished 9th in his first Queenland start in
the Joe Walsh & Associates Mdn Plte (1400m) at the Gold Coast
on Saturday.
Sir Henry showed some very solid form at the end of his
last preparation with three successive narrow seconds and
a bold first-up showing is expected from the gelding in the
Peter Doyle Cellars Hcp-C1 (1100m) at Wyong on Wednesday.
The gelding's last run was at Hawkesbury on 9th May. He has
since finished 5th in a Randwick barrier trial on 20th September.
Robert Thompson will ride from barrier 3.
Prince Georgios performed encouragingly at his first run
from a spell last start, finishing 5th beaten only 3.5 lengths
at Northam on 2nd October and he is entered for the All Legal
Hcp-C6 (1400m) at Ascot on Wednesday. However, the gelding
is fourth emergency for the race and will be fortunate to
gain a start. Prince Georgios has drawn barrier 18 with a
rider yet to be notified.
Aerobatic will be having her third career start in the
Action Photos Mdn Hcp (1400m) at Orange on Tuesday. The mare
finished 7th last start over 1200m at Tamworth on 4th October
after making up ground from 10th on the turn. The extra 200m
should be to her liking here. Dar Lunn will ride from barrier
1.
Eightsome is a three-year-old filly who will be making
her debut in the Sincerity Drycleaners Mdn (1200m) at Matamata
on Wednesday. She is out of the mare Morar, who won 8 races
in New Zealand in the early 1990's. Michael Coleman has the
ride from barrier 6.
Monday, 14 October
It was a great sight. Two champions giving their
all, refusing to concede defeat. On one hand there was Sunline,
with nothing more to prove after conquering all at the highest
level for several years. Then there was Lonhro - untried
at 2000m and detrmined to make amends for an unlucky fourth
at Randwick last start. And so it was that the cream rose
to the top in the Group 1 Yalumba Stakes (2000m) at Caulfield
on Saturday with Sunline taking up her usual front-running
position with Greg Childs able to control terms in front,
all the while keeping and eye on Darren Beadman and Lonhro
who was racing handily behind the mare waiting to pounce.
Beadman let the son of Octagonal go at the 300m and for the
next 15 or so seconds, Lonhro gradually took ground off Sunline
looking as though he may not quite get there for a stride
or two, but he was in front on the line where it matters Chaparejos
ran home nicely on debut in the 50% Off S T C Membership Hcp
(1100m) at Rosehill on Saturday, coming from 7th on the turn
to finish 3rd. Porteos finished third in his first
try at 2000m at Canberra on Sunday in the Rex - Regional Express
Hcp-C1 (2000m). Mi Doubloon ran 11th at his first start
in the Sportsman Black Opal Qualifier (1000m) at Canberra.
Little Oh was scratched from Wagga on Friday. Gold
Rush has been lightly raced with only two starts and he
showed last start when second at Hawkesbury on 3rd October
that he is ready to win. The four-year-old gelding appears
nicely placed in the Rajah Sahib Hcp (1600m) at Warwick Farm
on Wednesday, on the limit of 53kg, drawing barrier 2 and
to be ridden by Darren Beadman.
Ominous, a three-year-old gelding trained by John Hawkes
will make debut on his home track, Warwick Farm, in the Bernbrook
Mdn Hcp (1400m). He is out of Classy Mover, whose sire is
Luskin Star. Ominous has had two trials to date - 5th at Rosehill
on 21st May and also 5th at the same track on 1st October.
Friday,
11 October
Lonhro returns to Caulfield on Saturday, the scene
of perhaps his greatest ever victory, where he will contest
the Group 1 Yalumba Stakes (2000m). On the same race day last
year, Lonhro brilliantly came from 14th on the turn
to win the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m) by 1 1/4 lengths
- a great feat considering the quality of the field. Saturday's
event will not be any easier with multiple Group winners Sunline
and Sky Heights engaged. At his last start, Lonhro
was unable to obtain clear running for the majority of the
straight when 4th in the Group 1 George Main Stakes (1600m)
at Randwick on 28th September. Darren Beadman will ride from
barrier 8. Chaparejos is a 2yo colt from the John Hawkes
stable who will be making his debut in the 50% Off S T C Membership
Hcp (1100m) at Rosehill on Saturday. He is out of Collant
Noir, who won five races in Sydney in the early 90's. Chaparejos
ran 6th in a brrier trial at Rosehill on 1st October. Craig
Agnew has the ride from barrier 4.
Porteos struck interference last start when 9th at
Canberra on 27th September, but her form before that had been
strong and she looks a good chance to make amends in the Rex
- Regional Express Hcp-C1 (2000m) at Canberra on Sunday. All
of Porteos' 12 starts have been on the ACT track, but
this will be her first attempt at the 2000m. Grant Buckley
will ride from barrier 6.
Little Oh has not started since running 5th at Goulburn
on 28th May and will resume in the Mountain Dew Hcp (1000m)
at Wagga on Friday. The gelding will be advantaged by racing
on his home track, where he scored on debut over 1000m on
28th April. Andrew Bloomfield has the ride from barrier 6.
Mi Doubloon, a 2yo filly, will have her first start in
the Sportsman Black Opal Qualifier (1000m) at Canberra on
Sunday. She is out of the Rory's Jester mare, Nanaimo, who
won four Sydney races in the mid 1990's. Mi Doubloon
finished 6th in her trial at Warwick Farm on 27th September.
Jamie Innes will ride from barrier 9.
In results from Wednesday, Akwendi ran a solid third
in the Nov 16 Nivea Girls Day Out Hcp (1900m) at Canterbury,
while Octapussy was 8th on debut in the Te Aroha Tractors
& Machinery Mdn (1100m) at Te Aroha.
Monday, 7 October
Hosannah returned to top form on Saturday with a slashing
win in the Group 3 Jayco Stakes (1420m) at Flemington. The
mare came from 10th on the turn to score by a length. The
win takes Hosannah's record to 5 wins from 21 starts
with total prizemoney of just over $700,000 - a fine reward
for having raced in top class company for most of her career.
Ares was able to continue on his winning way in the
Battle Heights Hcp (1600m) at Randwick on Monday. The gelding
repeated her fast-finish from last start, coming from 10th
on the turn and winning by a neck. Ares is moving through
the grades nicely and there is nothing to suggest he will
not keep on this roll next start.
Occidental was another for Octagonal last week, taking
out a class one event by two lengths at Hawkesbury on Thursday.
The four year old stepped up to 1800m for the first time and
was able to lead all the way. Evander finished impressively
in the Energy Australia Epsom Hcp (1600m) at Randwick on Saturday
to grab 4th place. The gelding was 8th on the turn and was
only 2.5 lengths from the winner. This effort proves Evander's
ability to perform at the highest level and he looks set for
a lucrative Spring. Dandyish finished 8th in the Super Impose
Hcp (1800m) at Flemington on Saturday.
Croft ran 8th at Randwick on Saturday in the NTG Angst
Quality (1400m).
Aerobatic ran 7th in the Tooheys Mdn Hcp (1200m) at
Tamworth on Friday.
Akwendi has been getting closer to a win at each of
her for starts this time in and she gets the chance to breakthrough
in the Nov 16 Nivea Girls Day Out Hcp (1900m) at Canterbury
on Wednesday. The mare was beaten only a length last start
when second at Canterbury on 25th September. Darren Beadman
will ride from barrier 6.
Octopussy is a three year old filly who will be making
her debut in the Te Aroha Tractors & Machinery Mdn (1100m)
at Te Aroha on Wednesday. She is out of the New Zealand mare
Dopff, who won 8 of her 19 races in NZ in the mid 90's and
who raced briefly in Australia. Apprentice Sarah Boyd has
the ride from barrier 5 and will claim 3kg.
Thursday, 3 October
Hierogram showed at his first
start this preparation that he was approaching a victory and
that proved to be the case at Canterbury on Wednesday when
the filly cruised to the line to win the Mt Carmel High Varroville
Hcp (1550m). Hierogram was 6th on the turn but jockey
Corey Brown let her down at about the 200m and she quickly
gathered in the leaders to win by 3/4 of a length. Prince
Georgios fought on strongly in resuming with an 5th at
Northam on Wednesday in the Robbie O'Driscoll Memorial Mdn
(1300m).
Sir Henry was scratched from Kembla Grange on Tuesday.
Evander looks to have come back better than ever this
preparation and he has the chance to add a Group 1 victory
to his record when he contests the Energy Australia Epsom
Hcp (1600m) at Randwick on Saturday. The gelding resumed at
Randwick on 7th September with a 1 1/2 length win under 58.5kg,
before running third in the Group 2 Shannon Stakes (1500m)
at Rosehill on 21st September. Evander has been placed
at Group level four times. Craig Agnew will ride from barrier
8. Hosannah has been shifted to Melbourne by trainer
John Hawkes in search of the Spring riches and has been entered
in the Group 3 Jayco Stakes (1420m) at Flemington on Saturday.
The mare should be fully tuned-up for this event after three
runs back from a spell, the most recent of which was a fast-finishing
4th in the Listed Cameron Hcp (1400m) at Newcastle on 18th
September. Darren Gauci has the ride from barrier 7.
Dandyish has been entered for two events in coming
days - the Group 2 Bill Stutt Stakes (1600m) at Moonee Valley
on Friday and the Super Impose Hcp (1800m) at Flemington on
Saturday, with a decision yet to be made as to which race
will be contested. The gelding was impressive in winning last
start at Moonee Valley on 14th September in what was his first
test in metropolitan company and only his third start overall.
At Moonee Valley, Damien Oliver will ride from barrier 10.
while at Flemington Dandyish has drawn barrier 8 and Steven
King is listed to ride.
Croft has done everything right in her career so far,
winning on debut at Kembla Grange on 31st August then backing
that up with victory at Warwick Farm on 17th September and
could make it three from three in the NTG Angst Quality (1400m)
at Randwick on Saturday. Croft is well-weighted on
the limit of 53kg. Corey Brown will ride from barrier 1.
Ares is coming off a strong, fast-finishing two length
win at Warwick Farm on 17th September and he looms as a good
winning chance in the Battle Heights
Hcp (1600m) at Randwick on Monday. The gelding has had two
runs this preparation, so should be approaching peak fitness.
Corey Brown has the ride from barrier 10.
Aerobatic will be having her second career start in
the Tooheys Mdn Hcp (1200m) at Tamworth on Friday after debuting
with a 9th at Cowra on 16th September and should be improved
by the experience. Dar Lun will ride from barrier
5.
Thursday, 26 September
The competition facing Lonhro at Randwick this
Saturday is about as tough as you'd be hoping to meet, but
despite the presence of Sunline, Shogun Lodge and Defier in
the Group 1 San Miguel - George Main Stks (1600m), the champion
galloper is in with a fantastic show. Lonhro scored an effortless
2 1/4 length win last start in the Group 2 Chelmsford Stakes
(1600m) at Randwick on 7th September. Tactics will play a
bit part here with only six horses engaged. Darren Beadman
will ride from barrier 2. Heptonstall will be returning
to racing at Randwick in the Listed The Nivison (1200m) after
having not started since her successful, brief sojourn to
Brisbane where she won the Group 3 Winter Stakes (1500m) at
Eagle Farm on 22nd June. The mare has already amassed an impressive
record having won 5 of her 9 starts. Darren Beadman has the
ride from barrier 4. Provokes will also be resuming
from a spell in the same event. The mare's last run was a
6th at Rosehill on 18th May and she tuned up for this with
a 3rd in a Rosehill barrier trial on 10th September. Provokes
has wins at Randwick and Newcastle to her credit. Corey Brown
will ride from barrier 2. Bright Eyed Boy ran on well
last start coming from 12th on the turn to finish 7th beaten
four lengths at Eagle Farm on 11th September and he will have
the chance to improve further in the John R Turk Electrical
Mdn Hcp (1400m) at the Sunshine Coast on Sunday. That was
the gelding's first run from a spell and he could finish in
the placings here. Zac Purton has the ride from barrier 7.
Midnight Nova has been placed at her last three starts
and is entered for the Werribee Cup Marquee Mdn Plte (1625m)
at Werribee on Monday. The mare finished 3rd at her most recent
start at Seymour on 10th September and has not been beaten
more than a length in the three recent placings. Stephen Baster
will ride from barrier 10. Porteos broke through for
a well-deserved win at Canberra last start on 30th August
and she will be favoured to carry on that form in the Bitz
Excavation Hcp-C2 (1600m) at the same track on Friday. The
mare won by 1 1/4 lengths after racing handy to the lead.
Jay Ford has the ride from barrier 10 and will claim 2kg.
Bonzai will have his second career start at Orange
on Sunday in the Neonatal Intensive Care Mdn Hcp (1300m) after
debuting with an 8th at Mendooran on 14th September. Before
that, the gelding finished 7th in a trial at Dubbo on 18th
August. Nathan Patchett will ride from barrier 1 and claim
3kg.
Results from mid-week racing saw Jessphine beaten just
under a length in finishing 4th in the Barra Bob Balmer Hcp-C1
(1200m) at Ipswich. Akwendi ran second in the Vic Smith
Consultant Hcp (1900m) at Canterbury. Occidental ran
6th beaten only 1.1 lengths in the Fastway Couriers Hcp (1550m)
at Canterbury. Octasong debuted with a 6th at Warwick
Farm in the Claymore Hcp (1400m).
Monday,
23 September
There will be plenty of interest at Warwick
Farm on Tuesday when the exceptionally bred colt Octasong
makes his debut in the Claymore Hcp (1400m). He is, of
course, sired by Octagonal and is out of Songline, whose list
of progeny includes none other than Sunline. Octasong has
had two trials to date - a 7th at Warwick Farm on 15th March
and 6th at Rosehill on 10th September. Corey Brown will ride
from barrier 8.
Front running filly Jessphine will be looking to get
things her own way in the lead when she contests the Barra
Bob Balmer Hcp-C1 (1200m) at Ipswich on Wednesday. At her
last start, Jessphine finished 5th at the Gold Coast on 7th
September. Prior to that, she won by four lengths at Eagle
Farm on 28th August. Glen Colless has the ride from barrier
8. Occidental went close last start when second at
Newcastle on 7th September and gets the chance to go one better
in the Fastway Couriers Hcp (1550m) at Canterbury on Wednesday.
That was her first run back from a spell, so she is sure to
have derived plenty of benefit from the hitout. Darren Beadman
will ride from barrier 1. Akwendi is another who appears
very close to her win as was evident by her 1 1/4 length 4th
at Canterbury on 11th September and the mare will run at the
same track on Wednesday in the Vic Smith Consultant Hcp (1900m).
This will be Akwendi's first run over a staying distance,
with last start's 1550m the most she has run over. Darren
Beadman has the ride from barrier 4.
In results from last weekend, Evander ran on strongly
from 8th on the turn to finish 1 1/4 lengths away in third
in the Group 2 Black Douglas - Shannon Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill
on Saturday. Quiet As showed she has an exciting future
ahead of her with a third in the Group 2 Coca Cola - Tea Rose
Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill at only her second career start.
Hierogram ran the best race of her short career, finishing
third at Kembla Grange on Saturday in the Members Equity F&M
Mdn Hcp (1400m). Pentathlon finished 9th in the Carlton
Draught Hcp (1400m) at Sandown on Saturday. Heptonstall
finished second in her trial at Randwick on Friday.
Thursday, 19 September
Ares has shown the form that saw him running in Listed
company last preparation with the gelding scoring impressively
by two lengths in the Narwee Hcp (1600m) at Warwick Farm on
Tuesday. Ares came from last (10th) on the turn and
mowed down his rivals with ease. As this was only his second
start this preparation, further improvement can be expected.
Topping off a very successful day for Octagonal at Warwick
Farm was Croft, who made it two wins from as many starts
with victory by 1 1/2 in the Canley Vale Hcp (1300m). Hosannah
finished 4th beaten just over 1 1/2 lengths in the Listed
Hunter Star Motors Cameron Hcp (1400m) at Newcastle - a top
run considering the strength of the field.
Evander returned to top form last start in winning
at Randwick on 7th September by 1 1/2 lengths and gets in
well at the weights in the Group 2 Black Douglas - Shannon
Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill on Saturday. The gelding carried
58.5kg last start and although rising in class, drops 5kg
here. Darren Beadman will ride from barrier 2.
Quiet As created a huge impression at her debut, winning
by 5 1/4 lengths at Wyong on 4th September, but faces a stiff
class rise when she contests the Group 2 Coca Cola - Tea Rose
Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill. Clearly, her toughest rival will
be Victory Vein, but the authorative nature of Quiet As'
win suggests she will run well. Darren Beadman will ride from
barrier 4.
Pentathlon returns to racing on Saturday in the Carlton
Draught Hcp (1400m) at Sandown. He has not started since finishing
5th at Randwick on 11th May and has been placed at two of
three first-up runs. Darren Gauci has the ride from barrier
7.
Hierogram will resume from a long spell in the Members
Equity F&M Mdn Hcp (1400m) at Kembla Grange on Saturday. The
filly has not started since finishing 6th at Rosehill on 24th
February. She warmed up for this event with an 8th in a Rosehill
barrier trial on 10th September. Craig Agnew has the ride
from barrier 11.
Heptonstall will trial in heat 8 at Randwick on Friday.
Monday, 16 September
Dandyish has loomed as a serious contender
for the major races this spring after winning the Carlton
Draught Quality (1600m) at Moonee Valley on Saturday. The
colt performed exceptionally considering that he was rising
from provincial class and was having only his third race start.
In other results from the weekend, Factional finished
8th in the Tuesday's Slave Millinery Hcp (1500m) at Rosehill
on Saturday. Preoccupied ran 13th at Kembla Grange on Saturday
in the Sir James Hardy Hcp-C1 (1200m). Bagua Lass was
7th in the Asian Bazaar Imports F&M Mdn (1600m) at Bendigo
on Friday. Aerobatic finished 9th on debut at Cowra on Sunday
in the Cowra Guardian F&M Mdn Hcp (1200m). Nelisko
ran 11th in the Le Pine Funeral Services Hcp (1200m) at Sandown
on Sunday. Hosannah will have her third start this
preparation on Wednesday, when she contests the Listed Hunter
Star Motors Cameron Hcp (1400m) at Newcastle. The mare, who
has won a tick under $600,000 in prizemoney, is coming off
a last start 9th in the Group 3 Tramway Hcp (1400m) at Randwick
on 7th September. This will be Hosannah's first start at Newcastle
and she should appreciate the big track and the long straight.
Glen Boss will ride from barrier 12. Ares resumed with
a 6th at Randwick on 21st August and will line up in the Narwee
Hcp (1600m) at Warwick Farm on Tuesday. The gelding finished
the race off well last start and this distance is getting
closer to those at which she performed best last preparation.
Corey Brown has the ride from barrier 12. Croft started
off his career in the best possible fashion with a win at
Kembla Grange on 31st August and could carry on with that
form in the Canley Vale Hcp (1300m) at Warwick Farm. Croft
led all the way at Kembla Grange after jumping from barrier
12 and early speed will be needed here as well from barrier
17. Corey Brown will be aboard.
Friday, 13 September
Factional is nearing another win and
has conditions to suit in the Tuesday's Slave Millinery Hcp
(1500m) at Rosehill on Saturday. The mare has had two runs
back from a spell and was a fast-finishing 4th, beaten only
1.5 lengths, at Warwick Farm on 24th August. That was over
1400m and the extra distance here appears ideal. Corey Brown
will ride from barrier 10.
Connections of Dandyish have high hopes for the colt
and will get the chance to give credence to that confidence
when he contests the Carlton Draught Quality (1600m) at Moonee
Valley on Saturday. Dandyish has been nominated for both the
Caulfield Guineas and Victoria Derby and debuted with a win
at Ballarat on 18th August before a last start 4th at Sale
on 3rd September. Steven King has the ride from barrier 2.
Preoocupied was not far away last start when 6th at
Nowra on 9th August and will line up in the Sir James Hardy
Hcp-C1 (1200m) at Kembla Grange on Saturday. That was the
mare's first run since las December, so she will strip a lot
fitter here. Preoccupied has drawn ideally in barrier 1 and
will be ridden by Jon Grisedale. Bagua Lass is coming
of a debut 16th at Bendigo on 25th August and the experience
and fitness gained in that run will stand her in good stead
in the Asian Bazaar Imports F&M Mdn (1600m) at the same track
on Friday. Jason Patton has the ride from barrier 2. Aerobatic,
a four-year-old mare, will be making her debut at Cowra on
Sunday in the Cowra Guardian F&M Mdn Hcp (1200m). She is out
of Dazzling Flyer, who won four metropolitan races in her
short 8-race career in 1989. Aerobatic finished 8th in a Warwick
Farm trial on 1st March this year. Dar Lunn will ride from
barrier 2. Nelisko has been brought to the city to
make his debut in the Le Pine Funeral Services Hcp (1200m)
at Sandown on Sunday. The three-year-old colt is out of the
similarly named Neliska, who won the 1984 Group 1 South Australia
Oaks at Morphettville. Nelisko has had two trials in recent
weeks - a 5th at Eagle Farm on 6th August and 4th at Ballarat
on 23rd August. Brett Prebble has the ride from barrier 3.
In midweek race results, Midnight Nova ran a solid third in
the Tooheys New Mdn Plte (2010m) at Seymour on Tuesday. Akwendi
finished a very close 4th in the Melbourne Cup Day At The
Gardens Hcp (1550m) at Canterbury. Bright Eyed Boy
ran 7th in the Paul's Folly Mdn Hcp (1300m) at Eagle Farm.
Just Dance was 9th at Seymour on Tuesday in the Hahn Premium
F&M Mdn Plte (1005m).
Tuesday, 10 September
The champ reigns supreme. Lonhro showed
in Saturday's Chelmsford Stakes (1600m) at Randwick that he
will be the benchmark for other gallopers to aspire this Spring.
He won the Group 2 event by a clear margin of 2 1/4 lengths,
leaving some fine horses many lengths behind him. Darren Beadman
had Lonhro in 4th place coming to the turn before cruising
to the front and having the race in their keeping a long way
from the post.
Evander resumed in fine style at Randwick, winning
the James Barnes Transitional Hcp (1400m). The gelding stormed
home from last (12th) on the turn to win by 1 1/2 lengths
and take his prizemoney over the $200,000 mark. He is entered
for both the Epsom Hcp and The Metropolitan at Randwick on
the October long weekend.
Hosannah is working back to peak fitness and finished
9th in the Group 3 Tattersalls - Tramway Hcp (1400m) at Randwick.
Jessphine ran 5th in the Nestle Peters Drumstick-C2
(1200m) at the Gold Coast on Saturday. Occidental was beaten
only a half-head into second place in the Mayfield Ex-Services
Club Mdn (1400m) at Newcastle on Saturday.
O'Mars resumed with a 6th in the same event. Akwendi
has been switched back to John Hawkes' Sydney stable and will
run in the Melbourne Cup Day At The Gardens (1550m) at Canterbury
on Wednesday. The mare ran 4th last start at Kyneton on 27th
August. Darren Beadman will ride from barrier 4. Bright
Eyed Boy has not started since finishing 10th at Ballarat
on 3rd April and has now relocated to Queensland and is entered
at Eagle Farm on Wednesday in the Paul's Folly Mdn Hcp (1300m).
The gelding trialled at Eagle Farm on 3rd September, finishing
5th. Zac Purton has the ride from barrier 14. Just Dance resumed
recently with a 7th at Ballarat on 29th August and lines up
in the Hahn Premium F&M Mdn Plte (1005m) at Seymour on Tuesday.
Just Dance will start from barrier 11, with a jockey
yet to be notified. Midnight Nova has gone very close
at her last two starts and gets the chance to breakthrough
in the Tooheys New Mdn Plte (2010m) at Seymour. The mare finished
second last start at Kilmore on 31st August. Steven King will
ride from barrier 7. Call to Action finished third
in heat 5 of the Canterbury 2yo trials on Friday.
Friday, 6 September
Quiet As continued Octagonal's recent
winning success as a sire, scoring a brilliant 5 1/4 length
victory in the Lindemans Salinger Mdn Hcp (1350m) at Wyong
on Wednesday. The filly's dam, Broann, is by 1986 Melbourne
Cup winner At Talaq and is certainly bred for stardom.
Schmatte finished 16th on debut in the Adelaide Festival
Centre Mdn Hcp (1100m) at Morphettville on Wednesday. Pretty
Special ran 8th in the Rosvall ITM Maiden (1200m) at Ruakaka
on Wednesday. Ares was scratched from Warwick Farm
on Tuesday. Lonhro hits the turf again on Saturday
in the Group 2 Chelmsford Stakes (1600m) at Randwick, determined
to avenge his narrow defeat in the Group 2 Warwick Stakes
at Warwick Farm on 24th August. The champion will come up
against seasoned campaigners such as Shogun Lodge and Mr.
Bureaucrat, but should be suited on the spacious Randwick
track. Darren Beadman will ride from barrier 2. Hosannah
will be second-up in the Group 3 Tattersalls - Tramway Hcp
(1400m) at Randwick. The mare resumed with a 5th in the Group
2 Premiere Stakes at Rosehill on 17th August, a good run considering
the trip was well short of her ideal distance. Darren Beadman
has the ride from barrier 3. Evander is back after
a three-month spell and will resume in the James Barnes Transitional
Hcp (1400m) at Randwick. The gelding last ran in the Group
3 Doomben Classic on 8th June, finishing 5th. He tuned up
for this event with a third in a Rosehill barrier trial on
27th August. Darren Beadman will ride from barrier 4. Jessphine
created a big impression when winning last start by four lengths
at Eagle Farm on 28th August and looks set to continue on
her winning way in the Nestle Peters Drumstick-C2 (1200m)
at the Gold Coast on Saturday. The filly will start from barrier
11 and be ridden by M Shimodaira, who will claim 3kg. O'Mars
has not started since a very solid 5th at Randwick on 1st
May and returns in the Mayfield Ex-Services Club Mdn (1400m)
at Newcastle on Saturday. The gelding trialled at Randwick
on 30th August, finishing 6th. Aaron Huke has the ride from
barrier 9. Occidental has been entered for the same
event at Newcastle and is also resuming. His last run was
a 10th in the Canberra Guineas on 2nd March. Occidental finished
5th in a Randwick trial on 30th August. Allan Robinson will
ride from barrier 5. In barrier trial action, the first two-year-old
trials of the season in Sydney will be held at Canterbury
on Friday and Octagonal youngster Call To Action will
run in heat 5. While the Rosehill trials on Tuesday see Hierogram
and Provokes entered in heat 1, Gold Rush in
heat 2 and Octosong heat 4.
Tuesday, 3 September
A winning week for Octagonal-sired runners was topped off
by the victories of Porteos at Canberra on Friday and
Croft at Kembla Grange on Saturday. Porteos had been
running very consistently in the ACT over the past few months
and won the Golden Wattle Mdn Plte (1600m) by 1 1/4 lengths.
Croft started her career in the best possible fashion, taking
out the Gymea Bowling Club Mdn Plte (1200m) by 3/4 of a length,
a good effort from barrier 12.
Midnight Nova continues to improve with each start
and was beaten only a half-length in second place in the Heathcote
Dairy Mdn Plte (1900m) at Kilmore on Saturday.
Tully Cello finished 7th on debut in the Home Straight
Enclosure Hcp (1000m) at Werribee on Sunday, but was beaten
only 1.9 lengths. Ares resumed with a solid 6th at Randwick
on 21st August and will line up in the Carlton Hcp (1600m)
at Warwick Farm on Tuesday.
Ares ran 4th in Listed company in April, which places
her a step above most of her rivals in this event. Darren
Beadman will ride from barrier 1. Quiet As, a three-year-old
filly trained by John Hawkes, will debut at Wyong on Thursday
in the Lindemans Salinger Mdn Hcp (1350m). She has had one
trial to date, a third at Warwick Farm on 20th August. Darren
Beadman has the ride from barrier 15. Schmatte is another
youngster from the Hawkes camp making her debut. The filly
is entered for the Adelaide Festival Centre Mdn Hcp (1100m)
at Morphettville on Wednesday. Her two trials were a 6th at
Warwick Farm on 3rd May and 8th at Cheltenham on 26th August.
Chad Lever will ride from barrier 12. Pretty Special
ran 12th at Avondale on 17th July and will be running in the
Rosvall ITM Maiden (1200m) at Ruakaka on Wednesday. Michael
Walker will ride from barrier 10.
In barrier trial results, O'Mars and Occidental
were unplaced at Randwick on Friday.
Friday, 30 August
The Big O has produced another potential
star with Jessphine leading all the way to brilliantly
win by four lengths in the Princess Teresina Hcp (1200m) at
Eagle Farm on Wednesday. Considering this was her first start,
she can only get better with racing and will definitely be
one to keep an eye on in coming weeks. Dandyish looked
above average when winning on debut by 1.5 lengths at Ballarat
on 18th August and appears set to carry on his winning way
in the Publicans Hcp-C1 (1500m) at Sale on Tuesday. A big
future has been planned for the colt with the Spring Champion
Stakes at Randwick a target, before moving on to the Caulfield
Guineas and Victoria Derby. Noel Callow has the ride from
barrier 9.
Porteos came from 7th on the turn last start to be
beaten a length in second place at Canberra on 16th August
and will again be favoured in the Golden Wattle Mdn Plte (1600m)
at the same track on Friday. Jay Ford will ride from barrier
7 and claim 2kg.
Midnight Nova achieved her career best run last start
when 2nd at Seymour on 20th August and looks a very strong
chance in the Heathcote Dairy Mdn Plte (1900m) at Kilmore
on Saturday. Steven Vella will have the ride from barrier
15.
Croft is a 4yo mare from the John Hawkes stable who
will be making her debut on Saturday in the Gymea Bowling
Club Mdn Plte (1200m) at Kembla Grange. She has two barrier
trials to date - 9th at Rosehill on 4th December last year
and 2nd at Warwick Farm on 20th August. Allan Robinson will
ride from the wide barrier of 14.
Little is known about Tully Cello with the filly having
not appeared at the official trials, so her debut in the Home
Straight Enclosure Hcp (1000m) at Werribee on Sunday will
be viewed with interest. It can be assumed that she has a
deal of ability with connections bringing her to a metropolitan
class event first-up. Andrew Findlay has the ride from barrier
7.
At the Randwicks barrier trials on Friday, O'Mars is
in heat 7 and Occidental in heat 8,
Tuesday, 27 August
Lonhro was gallant in defeat on Saturday
in the Group 2 San Miguel - Warwick Stakes (1400m) at Warwick
Farm, succombing to Defier by a short neck. The blistering
speed up front may not have suited Lonhro who generally likes
to be settled before unleashing a final sprint. Factional's
was an enormous run in the Toy Show Quality Hcp (1400m) at
Warwick Farm, coming from 14th on the turn to be beaten only
1.5 lengths in fourth place. The mare can be followed with
confidence next start.
Jewel Time finished 12th in the Tyco Fire Monitoring
Mdn Plte (1500m) at Newcastle on Saturday. Bagua Lass ran
16th on debut in the Jetport Parking Mdn Plte (1400m) at Bendigo
on Sunday.
Jessphine looks a have a deal of talent judging by
her three trial wins at the Gold Coast and a debut second
at Doomben on 27th February and will line up in the Princess
Teresina Hcp (1200m) at Eagle Farm on Wednesday. The most
recent of her trials was on 6th August. Glen Colless will
ride from barrier 4.
Friday,23 August
Lonhro will be aiming for his ninth successive win on
Saturday when he contests the Group 2 San Miguel - Warwick
Stakes (1400m) at Warwick Farm on Saturday. The eight-time
Group winner won this race last year as a three-year-old and
based on her last start 3.8 length win in the Group 3 Missile
Stakes at Rosehill on 3rd August, should win again this year.
Darren Beadman has the ride from barrier 6.
Factional ran well last start to finish only 3.4 lengths
from the winner over the unsuitable distance of 1200m at Randwick
on 10th August and looks a strong hope in the Toy Show Quality
Hcp (1400m) at Warwick Farm. The mare showed a lot of promise
last preparation and will appreciate the extra 200m here.
Darren Beadman will ride from barrier 13. Jewel Time
improved last start when 10th beaten only 5.8 lengths at Newcastle
on 10th August and connections have given the gelding the
opportunity to improve further by entering him in the 1500m
Tyco Fire Monitoring Mdn Plte at Newcastle on Saturday. George
Scimone has the ride from barrier 12 and will claim 3kg.
Monte Peak has been entered for the same race at Newcastle
and is coming off a 7th at Hawkesbury on 8th August. He made
up ground from the turn last start and like Jewel Time will
benefit from the extra distance. Scott Pollard will ride from
barrier 7. Bagua Lass is a three-year-old filly who will be
making her debut in the Jetport Parking Mdn Plte (1400m) at
Bendigo on Sunday. She is out of Trivia Lass, winner of the
1993 Group 3 Sires Produce at Morphettville as well as races
at Canterbury and Sandown.
Bagua Lass trialled recently at Cranbourne, finishing
10th on 9th August. Ares resumed with a close-up 6th, beaten
only 2.6 lengths in the Potts Point Hcp (1400m) at Randwick
on Wednesday.
Tornado Kid was travelling well in second place in
the Eastlakes Hcp (1600m) at Randwick until the 600m where
the saddle shifted markedly forcing jockey Darren Beadman
to virtually retire the colt from the race. At the Rosehill
trials on Tuesday, Evander will run in heat 2.
Tuesday, 20 August
Dandyish showed why he has been nominated for
this year's Caulfield Guineas and Victoria Derby with a debut
1.5 length win in the J.P. Conaughton Mdn Plate (1400m) at
Ballarat on Sunday. The colt will be one to following in the
coming weeks. Hosannah finished 5th when resuming in
the Group 2 Bankstown Sports Club Premiere Stakes (1200m)
at Rosehill on Saturday. The race was short of the mare's
ideal distance and she is building up to another fine preparation.
Porteos was second at Canberra on Sunday in the ACTTAB
Radio 87.6 FM Mdn Plate (1600m). Espiral resumed from a 22
week spell with a 6th in the Town of Seaside Mdn Plate (1300m)
at the Sunshine Coast on Sunday.
Tornado Kid ran a nice race last start in finishing
4th beaten 2.9 lengths at Warwick Farm on 29th July and that
will stand him in good stead for the Eastlakes Hcp (1600m)
at Randwick on Wednesday. The colt will be stepping up to
the 1600m for the first time after two runs at 1400m. Darren
Beadman has the ride from barrier 4.
Ares, who showed potential in running 4th in Listed
company last preparation, will resume at Randwick in the Potts
Point Hcp (1400m). The gelding has not started since running
third at Canterbury on 11th April. Ares had the benefit
of a barrier trial at Rosehill on 29th July, finishing 5th.
Corey Brown will ride from barrier 9.
Friday, 16 August
Talented mare Hosannah will resume on
Saturday at Rosehill in the Group 2 Bankstown Sports Club
Premiere Stakes (1200m). Hosannah, who has amassed
$595,900 in prizemoney in her career, has not run since finishing
11th in the Group 2 Emancipation Stakes (1600m) at Randwick
on 13th April. She had a recent trial at Warwick Farm on 2nd
August, finishing 5th. Darren Beadman will ride from barrier
9.
Dandyish is a three-year-old colt who will be making
his debut on Sunday in the J.P. Conaughton Mdn Plate (1400m)
at Ballarat. He has had two trials at Cranbourne in preparation
for this event, finishing unplaced on 26th July, then 3rd
on 9th August. Noel Callow has the ride from barrier 4.
Porteos has been close to a win at recent starts and
will be favoured to score in the ACTTAB Radio 87.6 FM Mdn
Plate (1600m) at Canberra on Friday. The mare ran third last
start at the same track on 2nd August over 1400m. Nigel Seymour
will ride from barrier 5.
John Hawkes has transferred Espiral from his New South
Wales to Queensland stables and the mare will line up in the
Town of Seaside Mdn Plate (1300m) at the Sunshine Coast on
Sunday. Her only start was an 8th at Wyong on 27th March.
Espiral ran second in a trial at Eagle Farm on 6th
August. Scott Galloway has the ride from barrier 3.
Midnight Nova suffered interference at the start when
10th at Bendigo on 9th August and will hpoefully have better
luck from barrier 1 in the Goulburn Park Mdn Plte (1600m)
at Seymour on Tuesday. Vlad Duric has the ride on the mare.
Akwendi resumed with a 5th at Sandown on Wednesday
in the Leopardstown Hcp (1300m).
Tuesday, 13 August
Akwendi will resume in the Leopardstown Hcp
(1300m) at Sandown on Wednesday. The mare has not started
since running 8th at Moonee Valley on 28th March. That followed
a debut win at Echuca on 10th March. Darren Gauci will ride
from barrier 7.
Oz ran the best race of his short career at Newcastle
on Saturday, finishing second in the Skin Cancer Clinic Mdn
Plte (1400m). The gelding did well after starting from barrier
12 in the 13 horse field.
Jewel Time ran 10th in the same event.
Factional performed solidly first-up in the Ocean and
Earth Hcp (1200m) at Randwick on Saturday, finishing 7th in
a race that was over an unsuitable distance. The mare made
up ground from 11th on the turn and the run indicates that
Factional is in for a good campaign.
Midnight Nova ran 10th in the Tooheys New Mdn Plte
(1300m) at Bendigo on Friday, after striking interference
at the start.
Preoccupied was 6th at Nowra on Friday in the Danehill's
Brother Mdn Hcp (1200m).
Friday, 9 August
Talented mare Factional will resume
on Saturday in the Ocean and Earth Hcp (1200m). Earlier this
year, Factional won two races in succession before running
second in the Group 3 Adrian Knox Stakes (2000m) at Randwick.
While this distance may be shorter than ideal, she does have
a touch of class which will take her a long way in this race.
Premiership-winning jockey Corey Brown will ride from barrier
17.
Midnight Nova had trouble gaining clear running last
start and with better luck, should figure in the finish of
the Tooheys New Mdn Plte (1300m) at Bendigo on Friday. The
mare finished 5th last start at Benalla on 10th June. Midnight
Nova has drawn barrier 6 and will be ridden by Kate Walters,
who will claim 3kg.
Preoccupied will be having her first start for over
seven months in the Danehill's Brother Mdn Hcp (1200m) at
Nowra on Friday. The mare last ran on 29th June, when 6th
at Kembla Grange. Jon Grisedale has the ride from barrier
12.
Oz and Jewel Time are both entered for the Skin
Cancer Clinic Mdn Plte (1400m) at Newcastle on Saturday. Oz
resumed last start with a 4th at Newcastle on 27th July, while
Jewel Time ran 7th at Wyong on 25th July. Allan Robinson will
be aboard Oz from barrier 12, while George Scimone, claiming
3kg, has the ride on Jewel Time.
Odd Man Out finished 13th at Sandown on Wednesday in
the Wheatear Hcp (1300m). Super Octane debuted with
a solid third at Doomben in the Holden Mdn Hcp (1200m)
Monday, 5 August
He may not have raced for nearly six months
and is not yet fully fit, but you would have hardly noticed
as Lonhro raced away with the Group 3 P.J. Gallagher's
Missile Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill on Saturday. Darren Beadman
had the brilliant galloper in sixth place on the turn before
releasing the breaks as Lonhro went on to score by
3 3/4 lengths. The frightening reality for his future rivals
is that he has a lot of scope for improvement fitness wise.
Trainer John Hawkes reaffirmed that Lonhro's major
target this year will be the Cox Plate at Moonee Valley in
October.
In other results from recent days, Porteos ran 3rd
at Canberra on Friday in the Delta Pines Stud Mdn Plate (1400m).
Ochil Hills finished 6th in the Mark Newnham Mdn Hcp
(1300m) at Kembla Grange on Saturday after being checked at
the 1000m. Dr Loane ran 6th at Randwick on Monday in
the Staff Mdn Plate (1400m). Cornersoff finished 6th
in the Managers' Hcp (1600m) at Randwick. Odd Man Out showed
promise on debut when 4th at Werribee on 21st July and will
line up in the Wheatear Hcp (1300m) at Sandown on Wednesday.
The colt will be ridden by Steven King and has drawn wide
in barrier 13. Super Octane will make his debut in
the Holden Mdn Hcp (1200m) at Doomben on Wednesday. The colt
has won both his trials - at Tamworth on 9th July and Armidale
on 21st July. Kim Bell will ride from barrier 13. At the Warwick
Farm trials on Friday, Hosannah finished 5th in heat
2.
Friday, 2 August
Sydney racing hots up this weekend with the
return to racing of seven-time Group winner Lonhro
in the Group 2 P.J. Gallagher's Missile Stakes (1100m) at
Rosehill on Saturday. The four-year-old warmed up for this
event with a half-head second in a Randwick trial on 26th
July. Darren Beadman has scored the ride on Lonhro and they
will jump from barrier 5. Dr. Loane has performed well
at two starts since a spell and has a good chance in the Staff
Mdn Plate (1400m) at Randwick on Monday. The gelding was beaten
only a half-length when second last start at Wyong on 25th
July, which followed a fast finishing 4th at Rosehill on 6th
July. Con Karakatsanis will ride from barrier 10 and claim
3kg. Cornersoff's last start 11th at Canterbury on
25th July was more meritorious than on face value. The mare
finished only 4.6 lengths from the winner on that occasion
and gets the chance to build on that in the Managers' Hcp
(1600m) at Randwick. Nigel Seymour has the ride from barrier
5. Ochil Hills performed well at his debut, finishing
3rd at Grafton on 17th July and will run in the Mark Newnham
Mdn Hcp (1300m) at Kembla Grange on Saturday. Craig Agnew
will ride from barrier 1. Porteos moves back to 1400m
in the Delta Pines Stud Mdn Plate (1400m) at Canberra on Friday

Buckley has the ride from barrier 9. In Wednesday's results,
Tornado Kid finished 4th and Octitriumphe 7th
in the Mosman Hcp (1400m) at Warwick Farm on Wednesday.
Monday, 29 July
Champion galloper Lonhro looks to have
returned in superb fashion, judging by his half-head second
to rival Ha Ha in a Randwick barrier trial over 1050m last
Friday. Rod Quinn gave the star an easy time in the trial,
which was run in the fastest time of the day - 1.03.5. Lonhro
will resume in the Group 3 Missile Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill
this Saturday. Darren Beadman has accepted the prized ride.
Octitriumphe broke through in impressive style last
start and has the chance to build on that win in the Mosman
Hcp (1400m) at Warwick Farm on Wednesday. The filly won by
a length at Queanbeyan on 19th July over 1200m and gets in
nicely with only 50.5kg after the claim for apprentice Jay
Ford. Octitriumphe has drawn barrier 9.
Tornado Kid is running in the same event on Wednesday
and ran 9th at his only start on 13th July at Randwick. That
was after a 4th and a 3rd in trials at Randwick in June. The
colt will have Craig Agnew aboard and start from barrier 2.
Weekend results saw Boreale finish 9th in the Carlton
Draught Hcp (2040m) at Moonee Valley on Saturday.
Monte Peak ran 5th in the Street Real Estate Mdn Plate
(1200m) at Newcastle on Saturday. Oz finished 4th in the same
event.
Friday, 26 July
Boreale will have a chance to return
to the winners circle, after his last start second at Caulfield
last Saturday, in the Carlton Draught Hcp (2040m) at Moonee
Valley on Saturday. The gelding had previously won two on
the trot since moving to Victoria. Darren Gauci will ride
from barrier 12. Octessa was very impressive in winning by
two lengths at Warwick Farm on 10th July and could go right
on with it in the Sappers In Peacekeeping Hcp (1800m) at Randwick
on Saturday. The filly has won two of her last four starts
and is starting to progress through the grades nicely. Darren
Beadman has the ride from barrier 3.
Monte Peak has been off the scene since debuting with
a 9th at Newcastle on 21st April and will resume in the Street
Real Estate Mdn Plate (1200m) at the same track on Saturday.
The colt ran third in a barrier trial at Hawkesbury on 15th
July. Kayleen Gillman will ride from barrier 2 and claim 3kg.
Oz has been entered for the same event at Newcastle and
is also coming off a spell. His last start was a third at
Hawkesbury on 7th March. Oz recently trialled at Rosehill
on 16th July, finishing fifth. In results from Wednesday,
Little Madame ran 4th in the Whips N' Spurs Hcp-C3 (1615m)
at Doomben. Cornersoff finished 11th in the De Bortoli
Yarra Valley Hcp (1550m) at Canterbury. Rainbow Chaser
ran 5th at Paeroa in the Paeroa Hotel Mdn (1350m). At the
Rosehill barrier trials next Tuesday, Venturado will run in
heat 2, Yiasou Sydney in heat 3, Factional heat
7 and Ares heat 8.
Tuesday, 23 July
Octitriumphe has
taken just three starts to open her winning account with the
filly scoring a one length victory in the Kenny's Best Pal
- Yallambee Stud Hcp (1200m) at Canberra on Friday. She had
indicated talent at her opening two starts and delivered in
the best possible way.
Boreale failed narrowly in
his quest for three successive wins, running second in the
Chancellor's Plate (1800m) at Caulfield on Saturday. The gelding
was dropping back in distance which can be difficult and was
up against some seasoned older gallopers.
Odd Man Out debuted with
a 4th in the Super Vobis Mdn Plte (1110m) at Werribee on Sunday.
Porteos ran
6th at her first start over 1400m in the Kooringal Stud Mdn
Plte (1600m) at Canberra.
Orthopaedic finished 12th
in the Monash International Hcp (2000m) at Caulfield.
Little Madame ran home well
last start and looks a good hope in the Whips N' Spurs Hcp-C3
(1615m) at Doomben on Wednesday. The filly finished third
after being 9th on the turn at Eagle Farm on 6th July. This
will be Little Madame's first start at this distance and she
has been steadily rising in distance in her races. She will
be ridden by Scott Galloway and jump from barrier 1.
Dr Loane started at big odds
when resuming at Rosehill on 6th July, but belied that price
in running a very impressive 4th, coming from 9th on the turn
and running into bother near the turn. This form is strong
enough to see the gelding go close in the De Bortoli Wines
Hcp (1250m) at Canterbury on Wednesday. Brent Stanley will
ride from barrier 13. Cornersoff
will be dropping back from
2000m to 1550m in the De Bortoli Yarra Valley Hcp (1550m)
at Canterbury. The filly's last start was a 5th at Kembla
Grange on 6th July. Nigel Seymour has the ride from barrier
10. Rainbow Chaser will
be having her second career start in the Paeroa Hotel Mdn
(1350m) at Paeroa on Wednesday. The filly finished 14th on
debut at Te Awamutu on 29th May. Reese Jones will ride from
barrier 2.
Friday, 19 July
Boreale is in a purple patch of form
and he will be favoured to continue on his winning way in
the Chancellor's Plate (1800m) at Caulfield on Saturday. The
gelding led all the way last start in winning at Flemington
by 1 1/2 lengths on 29th June. Boreale has not finished further
back than 4th in his seven career starts. Darren Gauci will
ride from barrier 9.
Orthopaedic is another extremely consistent galloper and
appears close to breaking through for a metropolitan win.
The gelding will have that chance in the Monash International
Hcp (2000m) at Caulfield. His last start was a 4th at Moonee
Valley on 3rd July. Brendan Fenech will ride from barrier
5 and claim 1 1/2 kg.
Porteos has had all her seven starts at Canberra and will
run there on Friday in the Kooringal Stud Mdn Plte (1600m).
The filly has struck heavy tracks at her past three starts
and the dry track here may be just what she needs to win.
Porteos finished 5th on 7th July at her most recent outing.
Grant Buckley will ride from barrier 1.
Octitriumphe has showed some promise at her two starts
and will run in the Kenny's Best Pal - Yallambee Stud Hcp
(1200m) at Canberra. The filly resumed with a 7th at Canberra
Jay Ford, who will claim two kilos, has the ride from barrier
7.Octitriumphe has showed promise at her two starts and will
run in the Kenny's Best Pal - Yallambee Stud Mdn Plte (1200m)
at Canberra. The filly's last start was a 7th at Canberra
on 7th July. Jay Ford, who will claim two kilos, will ride
from barrier 7.

in the late 80's including eight Group events for over $1.3
million in prizemoney. Steven King will ride from barrier
1.
In results from Wednesday, Ochil Hills ran a nice race
on debut, finishing 3rd in the Ron Skinner Enterprises Mdn
(1200m) at Grafton. Pretty Special ran 12th on debut
at Avondale in the Vertidrain NZ Mdn (1200m). Throttle ran
13th at Cheltenham Park in the Aristocrat Technologies Hcp
(1263m). Super Octane was scratched from Grafton.
Tuesday, 16 July
The well-bred Ochil Hills will be making his debut
on Wednesday in the Ron Skinner Enterprises Mdn (1200m) at
Grafton. The gelding is out of Matinee Love, whose sire is
Marauding, winner of the 1987 Golden Slipper. Ochil Hills
has had five barrier trials over the past year and the most
recent of those was a win at Randwick on 21st June. Darryl
McLellan will ride from barrier 12. Another Octagonal youngster
will be making their debut in the same event. Super Octane
is also nicely bred, being out of the Kenmare mare French
Liaison. He has had one barrier trial, winning at Tamworth
on 9th July. The gelding has drawn barrier 14 with a jockey
yet to be notified. Throttle will be resuming from
a six month spell in the Aristocrat Technologies Hcp (1263m)
at Cheltenham on Wednesday. The filly's only start was a fourth
at Murray Bridge on 28th January. She finished 7th in a trial
at Cheltenham on 1st July. Darren Holland has the ride from
barrier 17. Pretty Special was scratched from Ruakaka
on Sunday and will instead run in the Vertidrain NZ Mdn (1200m)
at Avondale on Wednesday. It will be the filly's first start

Goulburn on Friday in the Gary Dutaillis & Associates Mdn
(1200m). Camilleon was 9th in the Daily Examiner Mdn
Plte (1500m) at Grafton on Sunday.
Friday, 12 July
It was hoped that on Wednesday, Octessa
would avoid the trouble of his last start at Randwick and
this was the case as the filly scooted away to win the Dorothea
Mackellar Hcp (1600m) at Warwick Farm. From the inside barrier,
Jim Cassidy was able to settle Octessa in the leading
bunch before going on to score comfortably.
Sky Love, on the basis of two impressive trial wins,
looks to have plenty of ability and will debut in the Sydney
International truck Show Hcp (1200m) at Rosehill on Sunday.
The filly won her trials at Randwick on 21st June and at Rosehill
on 2nd July. Chris Munce will ride from barrier 4. Tornado
Kid is another youngster who will debut this weekend in
the Bounty Cruises Hcp (1400m) at Randwick on Saturday. At
the trials the colt finished 4th at Randwick on 7th June and

from barrier 6.

Mdn Plate (1105m) at Seymour on Monday. The filly's last start
was an 8th at Newcastle on 26th January and he prepared for
his first Victorian run with an 8th in a Cranbourne trial
on 28th June. Nash Rawiller will ride from barrier 7.
Ready About has been close to the money at his last

record in South Africa and won the Grade 1 Premier's Champion
Stakes (1400m) in Durban on Saturday. Suntagonal's

at Kembla Grange on Saturday.

Adam - Cedar Brush Farm Hcp (1000m) at Canberra.
Connections of Octessa will be hoping for better luck
this time around, when the filly contests the Dorothea Mackellar
Hcp (1600m) at Warwick Farm on Wednesday. At her last start,
at Randwick on 26th June, Octessa was continually blocked
for a run in the home straight and under the circumstances,
did well to finish 4th after making up ground from 9th on
the turn. She has drawn well in barrier 1 and will have the
services of Jim Cassidy.
Rainbow Chaser will have her second career start in
the Wrightson Mdn (1400m) at Matamata on Wednesday. The filly
finished 14th on debut at Te Awamutu on 29th May. Reese Jones
will ride from barrier 14.
Friday, 5 July
Omens showed a tremendous return to form last start and
will be looking to continue that improvement in the XXXX Sunshine
Coast Guineas (1600m) on Saturday. The filly finished third,
beaten only a 1/4 of a length, in the Group 3 Winter Stakes
(1500m) at Eagle Farm on 22nd June. A wide barrier of 15 will
not help, but she has shown the ability to settle towards
the rear of the field and run home strongly. Omens will be
ridden by Scott Galloway. Little Madame was also impressive
last start, finishing 5th beaten 3/4 of a length in open 3-year-old
class at Eagle Farm on 22nd June. Based on that run, she looks
very hard to beat in the Osmunda Hcp-C4 (1500m) at the same
track on Saturday. Justin Stanley will ride the filly, who
has drawn barrier 13. Dr Loane will resume from a spell
in the Young Members Raceday July 20 Hcp (1100m) at Rosehill
on Saturday. The gelding's only start to date was a 10th at
Newcastle on 16th March. Morgan Butler will ride from barrier
5. Porteos looks to have found a nice race in which
to break her maiden status on Sunday, with the filly entered
for the Bowness Thoroughbred Stud Mdn Plate (1400m) at Canberra.
At her last start, Porteos finished third on a heavy track
at Canberra on 14th June. Grant Buckley has the ride from
barrier 4. Cornersoff steps up to 2000m for the first
time in the Prime Television Plate-C4 at Kembla Grange on
Saturday. The filly finished 11th last start at Canterbury
on 5th June and should find this race easier. Nigel Seymour
will have the ride from barrier 2. Octitriumphe will
be having her second career start in the Adam - Cedar Brush
Farm Hcp (1000m) at Canberra on Sunday. Her first start was
a promising effort, finishing 4th at Queanbeyan on 3rd March
after racing greenly. With natural improvement, she can be
expected to go close here. Shane Pawsey will ride from barrier
10. In results from Wednesday, Orthopaedic finished
in a dead-heat for fourth at Moonee Valley in the Fisher &
Paykel Hcp (1519m). Angular debuted in the Giannis
Restaurant Hcp (1350m) at Doomben, finishing 10th. Rainbow
Chaser was scratched from her engagement at Pukekohe Park.
Monday, 1 July
Boreale continued
his fantastic recent form in winning the Dulcify Hcp (2000m)
at Flemington on Saturday. It was the gelding's first run
in open company and he handled it with ease to lead all of
the way from his outside barrier and score by 1 1/2 lengths.
The win shows that Boreale is now ready to tackle stronger
events.
Camilleon finished 12th in the Port Macquarie Panthers
Maiden Plate (1400m) at Port Macquarie on Friday.
Orthopaedic has finished no worse than fourth in his
last nine starts in three different states and looks to have
found a race in the Fisher & Paykel Hcp (1519m) at Moonee
Valley on Wednesday. The gelding's last run was a 4th on a
heavy track at Caulfield on 2nd June. Darren Gauci will ride
from barrier 3.

debut at Doomben on Wednesday in the Giannis Restaurant Hcp
(1350m). He has finished second in two barrier trials - at
Canberra on 22nd January and Gold Coast on 11th June. Angular
will be ridden by Greg Farrer and start from barrier 5.
Rainbow Chaser was scratched from Avondale on Saturday
and will run in the Six TAB's Mdn (1400m) at Pukekohe Park
on Wednesday. The filly's only start was on 29th May at Te
Awamutu when 14th. Reese Jones has the ride from barrier 9.

Time was 6th in heat 1, Lovers 5th in heat 4 while
in heat 6, Reveries ran 2nd and Miss Rooney 4th.
Friday, 28 June
Boreale will rise
to open class racing on Saturday in the Dulcify Hcp (2000m)
at Flemington. The gelding won impressively last Saturday
by 2 1/4 lengths at Moonee Valley and gets in nicely with

of 16. Darren Gauci will again be aboard.
Camilleon will be having her third career start when
she tackles the Port Macquarie Panthers Maiden Plate (1400m)
at Port Macquarie on Friday. The filly's last start was an
8th at the same track on 14th June after being slowly away.
Dale Spriggs will ride from the wide barrier of 16. Rainbow
Chaser will have to rely on a number of scratchings to
gain a start in the Red Badge Group Maiden (1400m) at Avondale
on Saturday after being drawn as fourth emergency. The filly's
only start was on 29th May at Te Awamutu when 14th. A jockey
has not yet been notified and Rainbow Chaser has drawn
barrier 10.
Octessa finished 4th at Randwick on Wednesday in the
after being continually blocked for a run in the home straight.

Friday, while Lovers is entered in heat 4, with Reveries
and Miss Rooney in heat 6. At Tuesday's trials at Rosehill,
Euripedes is entered for heat 1, Hadfa and Sky
Love in heat 2.
Tuesday, 25 June
Saturday saw Heptonstall added to the
list of Octagonal-sired winners with a fast-finishing victory
in the Group 3 Carlton Draught - Winter Stakes (1500m) at
Eagle Farm. The filly's record is now very impressive, with
five wins from eight starts and prizemoney of $201,900. She
looks to have a very bright future and will no doubt be racing
in top class races in the near future.
Stablemate Omens also loomed as a winning chance in
the straight, finishing a quarter of a length away in third
place. The run was a fantastic return to form for the filly.
Boreale ventured to Moonee Valley on Saturday for her
first Victorian start and came away with a strong 2 1/4 length
win in the Sky Channel Hcp (2040m). The gelding had only raced
up to 1600m in previous starts and fought on extremely well
at the finish. Little Madame showed promise in jumping up
to open three-year-old company, finishing 5th beaten only
3/4 of a length in the Hong Kong Tourism Is It! Hcp (1400m)
at Eagle Farm. She had been racing in restricted company in
Sydney prior to this and showed she was well up to the class.
Ready About was handy most of the way in finishing
4th in the Wollongong Central Mdn Plate (1400m) at Kembla
Grange on Saturday. Octessa was scratched from Kembla
Grange and will be running in the Elusive Hcp (1550m) at Randwick
on Wednesday. The filly's last start was at Warwick Farm on
2nd June, when 4th. Jon Grisedale has the ride from barrier
12.
Saturday, 22 June
Octagonal will be represented by two runners
in Saturday's Carlton Draught - Winter Stakes (1500m) at Eagle
Farm, with Heptonstall and Omens engaged. Heptonstall

won four of her seven starts to date, earning prizemoney of
just over $84,000. Scott Galloway will ride from barrier 12.

where Robert Thompson is also engaged to ride, from barrier
4.
Tuesday, 18 June
Mezeray, a two-year-old
filly from the John Hawkes stable, will make her racing debut
in the F.E. Elbeshausen Hcp (1200m) at Sandown on Wednesday.
She is out of the Bletchingly mare Winning Table, who won
at both Rosehill and Randwick in her short four start career
in the mid-1990's. Mezeray has not been seen at the
official trials. Darren Gauci has the ride from barrier 7.
Fulfilment is coming off a last start 5th at Strathalbyn
on 26th May and lines up in the McLeay Carpets Mdn Plate (2050m)
at the same track on Wednesday. That start was her first over
a staying distance and she is likely to improve here. Joe
Bowditch will ride from barrier 6.
Porteos again struck a heavy track at Canberra on Friday

Peter Robl will ride from barrier 5.
Pentathlon broke his maiden status in very impressive
style by 2 3/4 lengths last start on the Kensington track
on 3rd April and could go right on with it in the Mike Howlin
Memorial Hcp (1500m) at Rosehill on Saturday. Pentathlon's
pattern of racing is to settle towards the rear of the field
and unleash a sustained finishing burst and he should find
the spacious Rosehill track to his liking. Corey Brown has
the ride from barrier 9. Aucash For All will drop back from
2000m to the 1400m of the Riverside Metal Industries Mdn Plate
at Kembla Grange on Saturday. The gelding finished 9th at
the same track on 6th April at his most recent start. Michael
Squires will ride from barrier 2.
Little Oh will debut in the Clubs Keno Mdn Plate (1000m)
at Wagga on Sunday. The three-year-old colt has had two barrier
trials to preapare for this event, both of which have been
at Wagga. He ran 6th on 15th January before a 2nd on 16th
April. Andrew Bloomfield has the ride from barrier 4.
Jewel Time ran 10th at his debut at Canterbury on Wednesday
over 1100m.
Tuesday, 23 April
Post added another string to his bow at Flemington on
Saturday by winning the Riverdale Hcp (1410m). The colt settled
mid-field, moved up to fourth on the turn and went on to win
by a neck. The victory takes Post's record to 3 wins and a
third from four starts for a total of $69,550 in prizemoney.
Connections have nominated the colt for a 1700m event at Flemington
on Thursday and also for the Travis Harrison Cup (1500m) at
Moonee Valley on Saturday.
Evander looks to have come back in fine fettle, judging
by his fast-finishing third in the Makinson & d'Apice Solicitors
Hcp (1200m) at Rosehill on Saturday. The gelding was 10th
on the turn but ran home well under 58.5kg in a performance
that suggests he will be in for a fine campaign as he steps
up in distance.
Capto finished 11th in the Group 3 Laekwood Stud Stakes
(1800m) at Morphettville on Saturday. Cornersoff ran
9th over 1850m at Newcastle on Saturday after being blocked
for a run for the majority of the straight until the 100m.
O'Mars was 14th at Newcastle over 2000m, striking interference
at both the 1400m and 400m. Monte Peak was 9th on debut
at Hawkesbury on Sunday over 1200m after striking interference
at the 400m. Classy Affair ran a nice race in finishing
4th at Ellerslie on Saturday over 1600, in what was her second
career start. Conscience ran 9th at Murray Bridge on
Friday over 1400 and Fulfilment 5th at the same track
over 1600m.
Jewel Time is a 3yo gelding who will make his debut in
the Parkview Hcp (1100m) at Canterbury on Wednesday. He is
out of multiple Group-winning mare Heat Of The Moment and
has had four barrier trials, the latest of which was at Warwick
Farm on 5th April when 5th. Rod Quinn will have the ride from
barrier 4.
Two-year-old filly Quiet As will have her first barrier
trial in heat 3 at Randwick on Friday.
Friday, 19 April
Post is a colt with a great deal of potential and will
have the chance to build on his growing reputation in the
Riverdale Hcp (1410m) at Flemington on Saturday. Post has
won two of his three starts to date, the last of which was
at Caulfield on 1st April over 1400m. Danny Nikolic will ride
from barrier 1.
Group placegetter Evander will resume from a spell
in the Makinson & d'Apice Solicitors Hcp (1200m) at Rosehill
on Saturday. The gelding has not raced since finishing 9th
in the Derby Trial at Geelong on 24th October. He ran 6th
in a barrier trial on 5th April at Warwick Farm to gain fitness
for this event. Evander has drawn barrier 4 with Darren Beadman
to ride.
Capto has been entered for races in different states
on Saturday. The more lucrative of the two events is the Group
3 Laekwood Stud Stakes (1800m) at Morphettville, where Stephen
Baster will ride from barrier 9. The other race is at Flemington,
the Blevic Hcp (2000m) where Capto has drawn barrier 11 and
Gavin Eades booked to ride. The filly finished 8th last start
at Group 1 level at Rosehill on 23rd March and will appreciate
the drop in class.
Cornersoff steps up to 1850m in the Nesco Electrical
Products (C1) at Newcastle on Saturday. The filly suffered
interference at the 200m last start, when 6th at Wyong on
4th April over 1600m. Allan Robinson has the ride from barrier
4.
O'Mars ran well last start when 3rd at Hawkesbury on
9th April and will line up in the Windsor RSL Sub-Branch Anzac
Memorial-C1 (200m) at the same track on Sunday. Rod Quinn
will ride the gelding from barrier 9. Monte Peak will
be making his debut at Hawkesbury and is entered for the Panthers
Hcp-C1 (1200m). The colt has had two barrier trials, the most
recent of which was at Canterbury, when 3rd on 8th April.
Scot Pollard will be aboard and claim 1.5kg and Monte Peak
has drawn barrier 9.
Classy Affair will have her second career start Ellerslie
in New Zealand on Saturday in the Tamaki Sports Bar Maiden
(1600m). The filly's first run was a 5th at Matamata on 5th
April. Apprentice Sam Spratt has the ride and will claim 3kg.
Classy Affair has drawn barrier 2.
Conscience and Fulfilment will now both run
at Gawler on Friday after the meeting at Balaklava on Wednesday
due to concerns over the state of the track. Conscience's
event, the Woodstock Mdn Plte, has been increased 100m to
1400m, while Fulfilment's event, the Yalumba Mdn Plte, remains
at 1600m. Jockeys and barriers remain the same.
Provokes ran home well in wet conditions at Warwick
Farm on Wednesday to grab 2nd after being 10th on the turn.
Tuesday, 16 April
The
connections of Provokes will be looking for a return
to the filly's first-up form when she contests the Lawn Hcp
(1600m) at Warwick Farm on Wednesday. Provokes won
impressively at Newcastle on 6th March, before a 12th on the
Kensington track on 3rd April. The filly has drawn barrier
15 and Darren Beadman will ride.
Fulfilment will have her second run since shifting to
South Australia in the Yalumba Mdn Plte (1600m) at Balaklava
on Wednesday. The filly finished 12th last start at Murray
Bridge after striking interference and will appreciate the
extra distance here, with her career best 3rd having been
at this distance. Jeff Maund will ride from barrier 4.
Conscience will also run at Balaklava in the Woodstock
Mdn Plte (1300m). The gelding's last start was a 9th at Murray
Bridge on 3rd April, after a 2nd on debut at Clare. Darren
Holland has the ride from the wide barrier of 14.
Hosannah was blocked for a run until well into the
straight and it may pay to disregard her run, after finishing
11th in the Group 2 Establishment Hotel Emancipation Stakes
(1600m) at Randwick on Saturday. The filly's general pattern
of racing has been to come from behind and as such she luck
in running is usually needed. The stewards also reported that
Hosannah pulled hard during the race.
Omens ran in the same event and finished just behind Hosannah
in 12th place.
Orthopaedic performed well at
Cheltenham on Saturday, coming from 7th on the turn to finish
2nd in the John Phillips Hcp (1460m). This takes the consistent
gelding's record to one win and five minor placings from nine
starts.
Montreal was 14th at Newcastle in the Enfield Motor Auctions
Mdn Plte (1300m) after jumping awkwardly and receiving a check
at the 1200m mark.
Camilleon finished 11th on debut in the Coogee Bay
Boutique Apartments/Medina Apartments Mdn Plte (1200m) at
Tamworth on Monday.
Boreale will trial at Warwick Farm on Friday in heat
10.
Friday, 12 April
Hosannah is coming
off a fine run in the Doncaster Hcp and should find the class
easier to handle in the Establishment Hotel Emancipation Stakes
(1600m) at Randwick on Saturday. Even though she finished
12th last start, Hosannah was only 4.8 lengths behind
winner Sunline and suffered interference at the 200m mark.
She drops back to fillies and mares class here and looks very
hard to beat. Darren Beadman will ride from barrier 2.
John Hawkes has entered Omens, who was an unlucky fourth
last start, for the same event. The filly struck interference
near the post in the Group 2 Queen Of The Turf (1500m) at
Rosehill on 23rd. This will be her third run from a spell
and with continued improvement she looms as a strong chance.
Corey Brown will ride from barrier 12.
Orthopaedic returns to metropolitan racing after a
fast-finishing third at Murray Bridge on 3rd April. He will
line up in the John Phillips Hcp (1460m) at Cheltenham on
Saturday. Orthopaedic has been consistent to date with
a win and four placings from eight starts. The gelding has
drawn barrier 5 and will have Darren Holland aboard.
Camilleon has been entered for the Coogee Bay Boutique
Apartments/Medina Apartments Mdn Plte (1200m) at Tamworth
on Monday, where she will make her debut. The filly has had
three barrier trials, all at Rosehill and the last of which
was on 19th March when 8th. Camilleon has drawn barrier
4 with a jockey yet to be notified.
Montreal ran a nice race last start when 4th at Newcastle
over 1500m on 30th March and will again race at that track
on Saturday in the Enfield Motor Auctions Mdn Plte (1300m).
Melanie Manktelow has the ride from barrier 10.

at the recent William Inglis & Son Easter Yearling Sale,

of $155,750. The top price paid was $600,000 for lot 515,
a black colt out of Twiglet.
Tuesday, 9 April
Factional was far from disgraced last
Saturday in the Group 1 AJC Australian Oaks (2400m) at Randwick,
finishing in 6th place, not all that far behind the placegetters.
The filly maintained 6th placing for the majority of the race
in what was her toughest test to date.
Sir Henry showed a return to for at Kembla Grange on
Saturday with a 2nd in the Thoroughbred Publishing Hcp-C1
(1500m). The gelding made up ground in the straight, but could
not overhaul the winner and was beaten 1 1/2 lengths.
Also racing at Kembla Grange was Aucash For All, who
finished 9th in the Aimer Racing Weekly Plate-C1 (2000m).
O'Mars raced the best race of his career at Hawkesbury
on Tuesday with a 3rd in the Australian Bloodhorse Review-C1
(1800m). He looks to have found his ideal distance range now
and looks likely to go close in a similar class event shortly.
Porteos continued her return from a 70 week spell by
finishing 6th at Canberra in the Functions at Canberra Maiden
Plate (1000m) on Tuesday. The filly has improved at each of
her three starts and is gaining fitness with each run.
Ares will be dropping significantly in class when he
contests the MAA-Arrive Alive Hcp (1900m) at Canterbury on
Thursday night. Ares' last start was a superb 4th in the Listed
Carbine Club Stakes (1600m) at Randwick on 1st April, at the
big odds of 50/1. On that run, he appears very hard to beat
here. Corey Brown will ride from barrier 5.
Capto is another that is dropping in class, but she
may not get a run after being drawn as the first emergency
in the Gillies Country Bakers Hcp (2040m) at Moonee Valley
on Thursday night. Capto had a visit to Sydney last start
and finished 8th in the Group 1 Arrowfield Stakes (2000m)
at Rosehill on 23rd March. She was beaten just less than five
lengths on that occasion behind classy performers Sixty Seconds,
Hosannah and Quays. The filly has drawn the outside
barrier of 15 and Damien Oliver will ride.
Prince Georgios is entered for the James Malachi Hcp-C1
(1300m) at Pinjarra on Thursday. Connections have been mixing
the gelding's distances in recent starts to ascertain his
most favoured journey. Peter Knuckey will be in the saddle
from barrier 8.
Classy Affair, a 3yo filly, will make her racing debut
at Matamata in New Zealand on Wednesday in the Flair's Tribute
To Joy Bell Maiden (1400m). She is out of the American mare
Bye Bye Affair. Classy Affair has drawn barrier 8 and apprentice
Cameron Lammas will be aboard and claim 3kg. Monte Peak
finished 3rd in heat 2 of the Canterbury trials on Monday.

by winner Sixty Seconds after both horses finished strongly
from the turn. The second placing takes Hosannah's career
earnings to just under $600,000 - an excellent performance
from only 14 starts.
Tuesday, 19 March
Impressive
filly Factional built on her growing reputation
with a strong 1 1/4 length victory in the Steve Donoghue Hcp

Lonhro
moved a step closer to champion class with a stunning victory
in the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m) on Saturday. The
Octagonal colt came from 14th on the turn and extremely wide
to overpower the strong field to win by 1 1/4 lengths and
takes his career earnings to over $1.2m. Scenes of jubilation
were evident amongst the winning connections as memories of
Octagonal were brought to mind with the acceleration shown.
