BIG O IS HAVING A SPELL OVER

THE FESTIVE SEASON AND WILL

IN
THE AUTUMN

Monday, 11 November
Prince Georgios had shown at two starts this preparation that he was getting very close to a win and that proved to be true at Pinjarra on Sunday as the gelding scored his first win in the T & G Cabinets Mdn Stks (1500m).
In other results, Hosannah finished 11th in the Group 1 Emirates Stks (1600m) at Flemington on Saturday. Factional ran third in the Ashby Doble Bali Volunteers Transitional Hcp (1800m) at Randwick on Saturday. Couverture made a solid debut at Geelong on Saturday, finishing 4th, beaten only 3/4 of a length in the Lalor Lucky Lotto Mdn Plte (1118m). Little Oh ran 9th in the Panthers Rendezvous Heat-C2 (1400m) at Goulburn on Friday. Occidental has been very consistent during his 8 start career, being placed 6 times and he looks well placed in the Dec 14, Xmas Giddy-Up Raceday (1900m) at Canterbury on Wednesday. Last start, Occidental finished second at Canterbury on 24th October over the same distance. Darren Beadman will ride from barrier 9.
At the Rosehill trials on Tuesday, Chastise and Rutched will contest heat 1, Euripedes - heat 4 and Ordenes - heat 6. The Randwick trials on Friday will see Ochil Hills run in heat 4 and Galapagos in heat 11.
Friday, 8 November
Connections of Hosannah will be looking for the mare to return to top form in the Group 1 Emirates Stks (1600m) at Flemington on Saturday. Hosannah finished 9th at Flemington last Saturday in the Nestle Classic (1600m) and three starts ago won at the same track on 5th October. Brendan Fenech has returned from riding in Sydney and has the ride from barrier 7. Factional stomed home from 12th on the turn last start to run second in the Belle of the Turf (1600m) at Gosford on 17th October and a repeat of that effort will see her go very close to getting the cash in the Ashby Doble Bali Volunteers Transitional Hcp (1800m) at Randwick on Saturday. Darren Beadman will ride from barrier 6. Couverture will be making her debut on Saturday at Geelong in the Lalor Lucky Lotto Mdn Plte (1118m). The three-year-old filly has not been seen at the official trials, so she will be watched with interest. Mark Flaherty has the ride from barrier 7. Prince Georgios is very close to a win and it may well be in the T & G Cabinets Mdn Stks (1500m) at Pinjarra on Sunday. The gelding finished second last start at Northam on 27th October at his second run back from a spell. Patrick Carbery has the ride from barrier 12. Little Oh ran very well first-up when second at Albury on 21st October and with added fitness the gelding will be strongly favoured in the Panthers Rendezvous Heat-C2 (1400m) at Goulburn on Friday. Andrew Bloomfield will ride from barrier 5. Racing on Thursday saw Hierogram finish 6th in the Group 1 Crown - V.R.C. Oaks (2500m) at Flemington, after leading until halfway down the straight. Provokes ran a nice third in The Moet & Chandon (1400m) at Flemington - racing handily during the event. Christomel resumed with a 12th in the Wizard - Penrith Mdn Hcp (1400m) at Hawkesbury. Regal State finished 5th at his second career start in the Auburn Soccer Sports Club Mdn Hcp (1200m) at Hawkesbury.
Wednesday, 6 November
Eviotis joined the ranks of Octagonal-sired winners with a 3/4-length victory in the Pat Kohut Mdn Hcp (1350m) at Ipswich on Wednesday. The gelding raced in the first two or three for the duration of the race and scored convincingly after being sent out favourite. In other results from midweek racing, Evander ran a nice third in the Listed Hong Kong Jockey Club Plte (1800m) at Flemington. Bright Eyed Boy finished 8th in the Mercedes Benz E-Class Mdn Hcp (1200m) at Eagle Farm on Tuesday. Porteos ran 7th at Canberra on Tuesday in the FM 104.7 Hcp-C4 (2000m). Classy Affair was scratched from her event at Te Aroha on Wednesday. Hierogram has been in tremendous form of late and she can top it off with victory in the $628000 Group 1 Crown - V.R.C. Oaks (2500m) at Flemington on Thursday. The filly has won her last three starts - at Canterbury, Caulfield and the Group 2 Qantas - Wakeful Stks (2000m) last Saturday at Flemington. This will be Hierogram's first attempt at a distance beyond 2000m, but her strong finishes at recent starts indicates that she will have no trouble with the distance. Darren Beadman will ride from barrier 8. Provokes is another who has hit top form of late and she looks a good chance to carry that on in The Moet & Chandon (1400m) at Flemington. The mare won last start at Randwick on 19th October - her third win from six starts. Provokes is well-weighted on the limit of 54kg and will be ridden by Darren Gauci from barrier 13. Christomel has not started since finishing 11th at Warwick Farm on 12th June and will resume in the Wizard - Penrith Mdn Hcp (1400m) at Hawkesbury on Thursday. The gelding has had two barrier trials since then, both at Warwick Farm - 9th on 27th September and 4th on 18th October. Darryl McLellan has the ride from barrier 12. Regal State will be having his second career start in the Auburn Soccer Sports Club Mdn Hcp (1200m) at Hawkesbury. He debuted at the same track on 20th October, finishing 5th. Darryl McLellan will ride from barrier 1.
Monday, 4 November
Lonhro once again proved himself to be one of the stars of the turf with a fast-finishing victory in the Group 1 Thrifty - Mackinnon Stks (2000m) at Flemington on Saturday. Darren Beadman was able to have Lonhro nicely settled in 6th place before making his run late and claiming victory close to the line. The win was the Octagonal galloper's third at Group 1 level and takes his record in all Group events now stands at 10 wins, one second and one third from 16 starts. His prizemoney now stands at an impressive $2,235,840. Lonhro will now be spelled and return for the Autumn carnival riches. Exciting filly Hierogram continued on her winning way at Flemington on Saturday when she took out the Group 2 Qantas - Wakeful Stks (2000m), coming from 9th on the turn. She has now won her last three races and has prizemoney of $237,930. On the basis of this win, Hierogram will back up in Thursday's Group 1 Crown - V.R.C. Oaks (2500m) at Flemington. Jewel Time showed that the move to Queensland has done him the world of good as the gelding won the City Finance (Tas) Mdn Hcp (1400m) on protest at the Gold Coast on Saturday. Jewel Time had to be checked near the post, but successfully protested to break his maiden. Hosannah finished 9th at Flemington in the Nestle Peters Classic (1600m). Wolfman finsihed 4th after racing handily in the Triple A Crash Repairs-C1 (1200m) at Morphettville on Saturday. While the major focus will be on the Melbourne Cup at Flemington on Tuesday, Evander will be flying the flag for Octagonal in the Listed Hong Kong Jockey Club Plte (1800m). The talented gelding has not been far away at his past few runs, the most recent of which was a 4th at Randwick on 19th October and this race is well within his grasp. Darren Beadman will ride from barrier 5. Eviotis will resume from a spell in the Pat Kohut Mdn Hcp (1350m) at Ipswich on Wednesday. The gelding's only run was a 5th at Ipswich on 29th May. He has since barrier trialled at the Gold Coast on 15th October, finishing third. Gary Baker has the ride from barrier 2. Porteos will be stepping up in class in the FM 104.7 Hcp-C4 (2000m) at Canberra on Tuesday. The mare ran third last start in a class 1 at Canberra on 13th October, but stuck on well enough at the staying distance to indicate she will be more than competitive here. Grant Buckley will ride from barrier 6. Bright Eyed Boy is another who has performed well since moving to Queensland and he looks a strong chance in the Mercedes Benz E-Class Mdn Hcp (1200m) at Eagle Farm on Tuesday. Last start, the gelding ran the best race of his career in finishing third at the Sunshine Coast on 29th September. Zac Purton has the ride from barrier 3. Classy Affair will be first-up since 29th May in the Grant Pearson Mdn (1350m) at Paeroa on Wednesday. On that occasion, the mare finished 10th at Te Awamutu. Classy Affair has drawn ideally in barrier 1 with a jockey yet to be notified.
Thursday, 31 October
Lonhro will back up in the Thrifty - Mackinnon Stks (2000m) at Flemington on Saturday after finishing 6th in the Cox Plate at Moonee Valley last week. Lonhro missed the start in that event and given the speed of the leaders, was unable to make up the required ground to overhaul them. While there are several Melbourne Cups contenders in the Mackinnon, the field is not as strong as the Cox Plate and with better luck this time around, jockey Darren Beadman should be able to give Lonhro a settled run. Lonhro has drawn barrier 6. Hierogram was extremely impressive in winning by 2 1/4 lengths at Caulfield on 19th October and looks a strong chance in the Group 2 Qantas - Wakeful Stks (2000m) at Flemington. The filly has come on in leaps and bounds this preparation and she could string several wins together. Darren Beadman will ride from barrier 4. Hosannah steps up to the 1600m on Saturday in the Nestle Peters Classic (1600m) at Flemington after her fast-finishing last start 4th in the Group 3 Tristarc Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on 19th October. The mare came from 10th on the turn on that occasion and will get the chance to come from behind here on the long, wide Flemington straight. Darren Gauci has the ride from barrier 2. Jewel Time finished 9th at the Gold Coast on 19th October at his first start in Queensland after transferring from New South Wales and is entered for the City Finance (Tas) Mdn Hcp (1400m) at the same track on Saturday. The gelding will be ridden by Daniel Griffin and has drawn barrier 7. Wolfman recently won a barrier trial at Morphettville on 14th October and will debut in the Triple A Crash Repairs-C1 (1200m) there on Saturday. The gelding is by Catriona, who won three races in Adelaide in 1996 including the Morphettville Plate. He has drawn barrier 12 and will have Darren Holland in the saddle. O'Mars finished 4th on the Kensington track on Wednesday in the Rajah Sahib Hcp (2400m).
Monday, 28 October
Lonhro finished a gallant 6th in Saturday's Group 1 Carlton-W.S. Cox Plate (2040m) at Moonee Valley after missing the start. Trainer John Hawkes said after the race that once you miss the start in a race like the Cox Plate, it is impossible to make up the necessary ground, especially with horses like Sunline leading who like to put on the speed virtually the whole way. Lonhro has been entered for the Group 1 Mackinnon Stakes at Flemington on Saturday, but a decision on whether he runs will not be made until the middle of the week.
In other results, Prince Georgios ran a career best second in the Avon Valley Contractors Hcp-C1 (1600m) at Northam on Sunday and has returned from his spell in fine fashion. A win appears to be not far off for the gelding.
Ares finished 11th in the 2KY Sydney Night Racing Transitional Hcp (2000m) at Rosehill on Saturday.
Olivia debuted at Queanbeyan on Monday in the www.qracing.com.au Mdn Hcp (1200m), finishing 13th.
Couverture was scratched from her race at Bendigo on Sunday.
After being placed at his last two starts at the provincials, O'Mars has been given the chance to prove himself in city class in the Rajah Sahib Hcp (2400m) on the Kensington track on Wednesday. The gelding ran 3rd at Gosford last start over 2100m on 17th October and has raced over 2400m on one previous occasion, finishing 5th at Randwick on 1st May. He has the limit weight of 53kg and will start from barrier 10. Corey Brown will be aboard
.

Friday, 25 October
Lonhro
will have the chance to break through the $2m prizemoney barrier when he contests one of Australia's greatest races - the Group 1 Carlton-W.S. Cox Plate (2040m) at Moonee Valley on Saturday. In an even field with many chances despite there only being nine runners, Lonhro again comes up against Sunline, who he was able to run down and defeat by a long neck last start in the Group 1 Caulfield Stakes (2000m) on 12th October. He meets the mare a half-kilo better here, but has not had raced at Moonee Valley previously. The other main dangers include Northerly, winner of last week's Caulfield Cup and Defier, who has gained a giant killing reputation in Sydney. The threat of a damp track will not worry Lonhro as he has won in virtually all conditions. Darren Beadman will ride from barrier 7. Ares is in the best form of his career with wins at his last two starts and he looks a good chance to carry on that form in the 2KY Sydney Night Racing Transitional Hcp (2000m) at Rosehill on Saturday. The gelding won by two lengths at Warwick Farm on 17th September over 1600m then by a neck at Randwick on 7th October over the same distance. Ares came from 10th on the turn both times and it is likely he will be racing towards the rear of the field on Saturday given that he has drawn barrier 14. Visiting Victorian rider Brendan Fenech has the ride. Prince Georgios was scratched from Ascot last Wednesday and will instead run in the Avon Valley Contractors Hcp-C1 (1600m) at Northam on Sunday. The gelding performed encouragingly at his first run from a spell last start, finishing 5th beaten only 3.5 lengths at the same track on 2nd October. Patrick Carbery will ride from barrier 8. Kestrel Call will be resuming from a spell in the 882 6PR Paul Murray Hcp (1100m) at Ascot on Saturday. The colt's only start to date was a solid 7th beaten 3.8 lengths at Belmont Park on 15th June, where he raced handy to the lead. Lucas Camilleri has the ride from barrier 3 and will claim 1.5kg. Couverture is a three-year-old filly who will be debuting in the Richmond Sinnott Delahunty Mdn (1100m) at Bendigo on Sunday. She is out of the Irish mare Molokai, who unfortunately died in 2001. Couverture has not been seen at a barrier trial, but with Octagonal as her sire, a bold run can be expected. Vincent Hall will ride from barrier 13. Olivia is another Octagonal youngster who will be having her first start in the coming days, with the three-year-old filly entered for the www.qracing.com.au Mdn Hcp (1200m) at Queanbeyan on Monday. Her dam is Remouche, who won nine races in Sydney from 1993 to 1995. Olivia trailed at Canberra on 20th May, finishing 5th. John Nisbet has the ride from barrier 10. In results from midweek racing, Sir Henry resumed from a long spell with a good third in the Peter Doyle Cellars Hcp-C1 (1100m) at Wyong on Wednesday. Eightsome finished 8th at Matamata in the Sincerity Drycleaners Mdn (1200m) on Wednesday.
Monday, 21 October
Hierogram
justified John Hawkes' decision to send the filly from Sydney to Melbourne with a brilliant 2 1/4 length win in the Carlton Draught Hcp (2000m) at Caulfield on Saturday. She stormed home from 8th on the turn and showed that she has an extremly bright future as a stayer. It has to be remembered that this was only Hierogram's fifth career start and that her two starts prior to this were in a Kembla Grange maiden and a restricted midweek race at Canterbury.
Hosannah
again ran on late to grab 4th in the Carlton - Tristarc Stks (1400m) at Caulfield, coming from 10th on the turn.
Heptonstall
finished 11th in the same event.
Dandyish
ran 8th in the AAMI - Norman Robinson Stks (2000m) at Caulfield.
Evander
was 4th beaten only 1.7 lengths in the Matthew Talbot Hostel Hcp (1600m) at Randwick on Saturday.
Pentathlon
ran on from 12th on the turn to finish 8th in the A.J.C. Convention Centre Hcp (1400m) at Randwick.
Akwendi
continued her recent consistent form with a second in the Mount Lofty Wines Hcp-C1 (2000m) at Hawkesbury on Sunday.
Little Oh
ran second in the Sky Channel Pty Ltd Hcp (1175m) at Albury on Monday.
Grenadier
finished 6th in the Sovereign Lager-Belgravia Stks (1200m) at Ascot on Saturday.
Jewel Time
finished 9th in his first Queenland start in the Joe Walsh & Associates Mdn Plte (1400m) at the Gold Coast on Saturday.
Sir Henry
showed some very solid form at the end of his last preparation with three successive narrow seconds and a bold first-up showing is expected from the gelding in the Peter Doyle Cellars Hcp-C1 (1100m) at Wyong on Wednesday. The gelding's last run was at Hawkesbury on 9th May. He has since finished 5th in a Randwick barrier trial on 20th September. Robert Thompson will ride from barrier 3.
Prince Georgios
performed encouragingly at his first run from a spell last start, finishing 5th beaten only 3.5 lengths at Northam on 2nd October and he is entered for the All Legal Hcp-C6 (1400m) at Ascot on Wednesday. However, the gelding is fourth emergency for the race and will be fortunate to gain a start. Prince Georgios has drawn barrier 18 with a rider yet to be notified.
Aerobatic
will be having her third career start in the Action Photos Mdn Hcp (1400m) at Orange on Tuesday. The mare finished 7th last start over 1200m at Tamworth on 4th October after making up ground from 10th on the turn. The extra 200m should be to her liking here. Dar Lunn will ride from barrier 1.
Eightsome
is a three-year-old filly who will be making her debut in the Sincerity Drycleaners Mdn (1200m) at Matamata on Wednesday. She is out of the mare Morar, who won 8 races in New Zealand in the early 1990's. Michael Coleman has the ride from barrier 6.
Monday, 14 October
It was a great sight. Two champions giving their all, refusing to concede defeat. On one hand there was Sunline, with nothing more to prove after conquering all at the highest level for several years. Then there was Lonhro - untried at 2000m and detrmined to make amends for an unlucky fourth at Randwick last start. And so it was that the cream rose to the top in the Group 1 Yalumba Stakes (2000m) at Caulfield on Saturday with Sunline taking up her usual front-running position with Greg Childs able to control terms in front, all the while keeping and eye on Darren Beadman and Lonhro who was racing handily behind the mare waiting to pounce. Beadman let the son of Octagonal go at the 300m and for the next 15 or so seconds, Lonhro gradually took ground off Sunline looking as though he may not quite get there for a stride or two, but he was in front on the line where it matters Chaparejos ran home nicely on debut in the 50% Off S T C Membership Hcp (1100m) at Rosehill on Saturday, coming from 7th on the turn to finish 3rd. Porteos finished third in his first try at 2000m at Canberra on Sunday in the Rex - Regional Express Hcp-C1 (2000m). Mi Doubloon ran 11th at his first start in the Sportsman Black Opal Qualifier (1000m) at Canberra. Little Oh was scratched from Wagga on Friday. Gold Rush has been lightly raced with only two starts and he showed last start when second at Hawkesbury on 3rd October that he is ready to win. The four-year-old gelding appears nicely placed in the Rajah Sahib Hcp (1600m) at Warwick Farm on Wednesday, on the limit of 53kg, drawing barrier 2 and to be ridden by Darren Beadman.
Ominous
, a three-year-old gelding trained by John Hawkes will make debut on his home track, Warwick Farm, in the Bernbrook Mdn Hcp (1400m). He is out of Classy Mover, whose sire is Luskin Star. Ominous has had two trials to date - 5th at Rosehill on 21st May and also 5th at the same track on 1st October.
Friday, 11 October
Lonhro returns to Caulfield on Saturday, the scene of perhaps his greatest ever victory, where he will contest the Group 1 Yalumba Stakes (2000m). On the same race day last year, Lonhro brilliantly came from 14th on the turn to win the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m) by 1 1/4 lengths - a great feat considering the quality of the field. Saturday's event will not be any easier with multiple Group winners Sunline and Sky Heights engaged. At his last start, Lonhro was unable to obtain clear running for the majority of the straight when 4th in the Group 1 George Main Stakes (1600m) at Randwick on 28th September. Darren Beadman will ride from barrier 8. Chaparejos is a 2yo colt from the John Hawkes stable who will be making his debut in the 50% Off S T C Membership Hcp (1100m) at Rosehill on Saturday. He is out of Collant Noir, who won five races in Sydney in the early 90's. Chaparejos ran 6th in a brrier trial at Rosehill on 1st October. Craig Agnew has the ride from barrier 4.
Porteos struck interference last start when 9th at Canberra on 27th September, but her form before that had been strong and she looks a good chance to make amends in the Rex - Regional Express Hcp-C1 (2000m) at Canberra on Sunday. All of Porteos' 12 starts have been on the ACT track, but this will be her first attempt at the 2000m. Grant Buckley will ride from barrier 6.
Little Oh
has not started since running 5th at Goulburn on 28th May and will resume in the Mountain Dew Hcp (1000m) at Wagga on Friday. The gelding will be advantaged by racing on his home track, where he scored on debut over 1000m on 28th April. Andrew Bloomfield has the ride from barrier 6.
Mi Doubloon,
a 2yo filly, will have her first start in the Sportsman Black Opal Qualifier (1000m) at Canberra on Sunday. She is out of the Rory's Jester mare, Nanaimo, who won four Sydney races in the mid 1990's. Mi Doubloon finished 6th in her trial at Warwick Farm on 27th September. Jamie Innes will ride from barrier 9.
In results from Wednesday, Akwendi ran a solid third in the Nov 16 Nivea Girls Day Out Hcp (1900m) at Canterbury, while Octapussy was 8th on debut in the Te Aroha Tractors & Machinery Mdn (1100m) at Te Aroha.
Monday, 7 October
Hosannah returned to top form on Saturday with a slashing win in the Group 3 Jayco Stakes (1420m) at Flemington. The mare came from 10th on the turn to score by a length. The win takes Hosannah's record to 5 wins from 21 starts with total prizemoney of just over $700,000 - a fine reward for having raced in top class company for most of her career.
Ares was able to continue on his winning way in the Battle Heights Hcp (1600m) at Randwick on Monday. The gelding repeated her fast-finish from last start, coming from 10th on the turn and winning by a neck. Ares is moving through the grades nicely and there is nothing to suggest he will not keep on this roll next start.
Occidental was another for Octagonal last week, taking out a class one event by two lengths at Hawkesbury on Thursday. The four year old stepped up to 1800m for the first time and was able to lead all the way. Evander finished impressively in the Energy Australia Epsom Hcp (1600m) at Randwick on Saturday to grab 4th place. The gelding was 8th on the turn and was only 2.5 lengths from the winner. This effort proves Evander's ability to perform at the highest level and he looks set for a lucrative Spring. Dandyish finished 8th in the Super Impose Hcp (1800m) at Flemington on Saturday.
Croft ran 8th at Randwick on Saturday in the NTG Angst Quality (1400m).
Aerobatic ran 7th in the Tooheys Mdn Hcp (1200m) at Tamworth on Friday.
Akwendi has been getting closer to a win at each of her for starts this time in and she gets the chance to breakthrough in the Nov 16 Nivea Girls Day Out Hcp (1900m) at Canterbury on Wednesday. The mare was beaten only a length last start when second at Canterbury on 25th September. Darren Beadman will ride from barrier 6.
Octopussy is a three year old filly who will be making her debut in the Te Aroha Tractors & Machinery Mdn (1100m) at Te Aroha on Wednesday. She is out of the New Zealand mare Dopff, who won 8 of her 19 races in NZ in the mid 90's and who raced briefly in Australia. Apprentice Sarah Boyd has the ride from barrier 5 and will claim 3kg.

Thursday, 3 October
Hierogram showed at his first start this preparation that he was approaching a victory and that proved to be the case at Canterbury on Wednesday when the filly cruised to the line to win the Mt Carmel High Varroville Hcp (1550m). Hierogram was 6th on the turn but jockey Corey Brown let her down at about the 200m and she quickly gathered in the leaders to win by 3/4 of a length. Prince Georgios fought on strongly in resuming with an 5th at Northam on Wednesday in the Robbie O'Driscoll Memorial Mdn (1300m).
Sir Henry was scratched from Kembla Grange on Tuesday.
Evander looks to have come back better than ever this preparation and he has the chance to add a Group 1 victory to his record when he contests the Energy Australia Epsom Hcp (1600m) at Randwick on Saturday. The gelding resumed at Randwick on 7th September with a 1 1/2 length win under 58.5kg, before running third in the Group 2 Shannon Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill on 21st September. Evander has been placed at Group level four times. Craig Agnew will ride from barrier 8. Hosannah has been shifted to Melbourne by trainer John Hawkes in search of the Spring riches and has been entered in the Group 3 Jayco Stakes (1420m) at Flemington on Saturday. The mare should be fully tuned-up for this event after three runs back from a spell, the most recent of which was a fast-finishing 4th in the Listed Cameron Hcp (1400m) at Newcastle on 18th September. Darren Gauci has the ride from barrier 7.
Dandyish has been entered for two events in coming days - the Group 2 Bill Stutt Stakes (1600m) at Moonee Valley on Friday and the Super Impose Hcp (1800m) at Flemington on Saturday, with a decision yet to be made as to which race will be contested. The gelding was impressive in winning last start at Moonee Valley on 14th September in what was his first test in metropolitan company and only his third start overall. At Moonee Valley, Damien Oliver will ride from barrier 10. while at Flemington Dandyish has drawn barrier 8 and Steven King is listed to ride.
Croft has done everything right in her career so far, winning on debut at Kembla Grange on 31st August then backing that up with victory at Warwick Farm on 17th September and could make it three from three in the NTG Angst Quality (1400m) at Randwick on Saturday. Croft is well-weighted on the limit of 53kg. Corey Brown will ride from barrier 1.
Ares
is coming off a strong, fast-finishing two length win at Warwick Farm on 17th September and he looms as a good winning chance in the Battle Heights Hcp (1600m) at Randwick on Monday. The gelding has had two runs this preparation, so should be approaching peak fitness. Corey Brown has the ride from barrier 10.
Aerobatic will be having her second career start in the Tooheys Mdn Hcp (1200m) at Tamworth on Friday after debuting with a 9th at Cowra on 16th September and should be improved by the experience. Dar Lun will ride from barrie
r 5.
Thursday, 26 September

The competition facing Lonhro at Randwick this Saturday is about as tough as you'd be hoping to meet, but despite the presence of Sunline, Shogun Lodge and Defier in the Group 1 San Miguel - George Main Stks (1600m), the champion galloper is in with a fantastic show. Lonhro scored an effortless 2 1/4 length win last start in the Group 2 Chelmsford Stakes (1600m) at Randwick on 7th September. Tactics will play a bit part here with only six horses engaged. Darren Beadman will ride from barrier 2. Heptonstall will be returning to racing at Randwick in the Listed The Nivison (1200m) after having not started since her successful, brief sojourn to Brisbane where she won the Group 3 Winter Stakes (1500m) at Eagle Farm on 22nd June. The mare has already amassed an impressive record having won 5 of her 9 starts. Darren Beadman has the ride from barrier 4. Provokes will also be resuming from a spell in the same event. The mare's last run was a 6th at Rosehill on 18th May and she tuned up for this with a 3rd in a Rosehill barrier trial on 10th September. Provokes has wins at Randwick and Newcastle to her credit. Corey Brown will ride from barrier 2. Bright Eyed Boy ran on well last start coming from 12th on the turn to finish 7th beaten four lengths at Eagle Farm on 11th September and he will have the chance to improve further in the John R Turk Electrical Mdn Hcp (1400m) at the Sunshine Coast on Sunday. That was the gelding's first run from a spell and he could finish in the placings here. Zac Purton has the ride from barrier 7. Midnight Nova has been placed at her last three starts and is entered for the Werribee Cup Marquee Mdn Plte (1625m) at Werribee on Monday. The mare finished 3rd at her most recent start at Seymour on 10th September and has not been beaten more than a length in the three recent placings. Stephen Baster will ride from barrier 10. Porteos broke through for a well-deserved win at Canberra last start on 30th August and she will be favoured to carry on that form in the Bitz Excavation Hcp-C2 (1600m) at the same track on Friday. The mare won by 1 1/4 lengths after racing handy to the lead. Jay Ford has the ride from barrier 10 and will claim 2kg. There will be plenty of interest at Warwick Farm on Tuesday when the exceptionally bred colt Octasong makes his debut in the Claymore Hcp (1400m). He is, of course, sired by Octagonal and is out of Songline, whose list of progeny includes none other than Sunline. Octasong has had two trials to date - a 7th at Warwick Farm on 15th March and 6th at Rosehill on 10th September. Corey Brown will ride from barrier 8.
Front running filly Jessphine will be looking to get things her own way in the lead when she contests the Barra Bob Balmer Hcp-C1 (1200m) at Ipswich on Wednesday. At her last start, Jessphine finished 5th at the Gold Coast on 7th September. Prior to that, she won by four lengths at Eagle Farm on 28th August. Glen Colless has the ride from barrier 8. Occidental went close last start when second at Newcastle on 7th September and gets the chance to go one better in the Fastway Couriers Hcp (1550m) at Canterbury on Wednesday. That was her first run back from a spell, so she is sure to have derived plenty of benefit from the hitout. Darren Beadman will ride from barrier 1. Akwendi is another who appears very close to her win as was evident by her 1 1/4 length 4th at Canterbury on 11th September and the mare will run at the same track on Wednesday in the Vic Smith Consultant Hcp (1900m). This will be Akwendi's first run over a staying distance, with last start's 1550m the most she has run over. Darren Beadman has the ride from barrier 4.

Ares has shown the form that saw him running in Listed company last preparation with the gelding scoring impressively by two lengths in the Narwee Hcp (1600m) at Warwick Farm on Tuesday. Ares came from last (10th) on the turn and mowed down his rivals with ease. As this was only his second start this preparation, further improvement can be expected.
Topping off a very successful day for Octagonal at Warwick Farm was Croft, who made it two wins from as many starts with victory by 1 1/2 in the Canley Vale Hcp (1300m). Hosannah finished 4th beaten just over 1 1/2 lengths in the Listed Hunter Star Motors Cameron Hcp (1400m) at Newcastle - a top run considering the strength of the field.
Evander returned to top form last start in winning at Randwick on 7th September by 1 1/2 lengths and gets in well at the weights in the Group 2 Black Douglas - Shannon Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill on Saturday. The gelding carried 58.5kg last start and although rising in class, drops 5kg here. Darren Beadman will ride from barrier 2.
Quiet As created a huge impression at her debut, winning by 5 1/4 lengths at Wyong on 4th September, but faces a stiff class rise when she contests the Group 2 Coca Cola - Tea Rose Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill. Clearly, her toughest rival will be Victory Vein, but the authorative nature of Quiet As' win suggests she will run well. Darren Beadman will ride from barrier 4.
Pentathlon returns to racing on Saturday in the Carlton Draught Hcp (1400m) at Sandown. He has not started since finishing 5th at Randwick on 11th May and has been placed at two of three first-up runs. Darren Gauci has the ride from barrier 7.

Dandyish
has loomed as a serious contender for the major races this spring after winning the Carlton Draught Quality (1600m) at Moonee Valley on Saturday. In other results from the weekend, Factional finished 8th in the Tuesday's Slave Millinery Hcp (1500m) at Rosehill on Saturday. Preoccupied ran 13th at Kembla Grange on Saturday in the Sir James Hardy Hcp-C1 (1200m). Bagua Lass was 7th in the Asian Bazaar Imports F&M Mdn (1600m) at Bendigo on Friday. Ares resumed with a 6th at Randwick on 21st August and will line up in the Narwee Hcp (1600m) at Warwick Farm on Tuesday. The gelding finished the race off well last start and this distance is getting closer to those at which she performed best last preparation. Corey Brown has the ride from barrier 12. Croft started off his career in the best possible fashion with a win at Kembla Grange on 31st August and could carry on with that form in the Canley Vale Hcp (1300m) at Warwick Farm. Croft led all the way at Kembla Grange after jumping from barrier 12 and early speed will be needed here as well from barrier 17. Corey Brown will be aboard.
Friday, 13 September
Factional is nearing another win and has conditions to suit in the Tuesday's Slave Millinery Hcp (1500m) at Rosehill on Saturday. The mare has had two runs back from a spell and was a fast-finishing 4th, beaten only 1.5 lengths, at Warwick Farm on 24th August. That was over 1400m and the extra distance here appears ideal. Corey Brown will ride from barrier 10.
Connections of Dandyish have high hopes for the colt and will get the chance to give credence to that confidence when he contests the Carlton Draught Quality (1600m) at Moonee Valley on Saturday. Dandyish has been nominated for both the Caulfield Guineas and Victoria Derby and debuted with a win at Ballarat on 18th August before a last start 4th at Sale on 3rd September. Steven King has the ride from barrier 2. Preoocupied was not far away last start when 6th at Nowra on 9th August and will line up in the Sir James Hardy Hcp-C1 (1200m) at Kembla Grange on Saturday. That was the mare's first run since las December, so she will strip a lot fitter here. Preoccupied has drawn ideally in barrier 1 and will be ridden by Jon Grisedale. Bagua Lass is coming of a debut 16th at Bendigo on 25th August and the experience and fitness gained in that run will stand her in good stead in the Asian Bazaar Imports F&M Mdn (1600m) at the same track on Friday. Jason Patton has the ride from barrier 2. Aerobatic, a four-year-old mare, will be making her debut at Cowra on Sunday in the Cowra Guardian F&M Mdn Hcp (1200m). Dar Lunn will ride from barrier 2. Nelisko has been brought to the city to make his debut in the Le Pine Funeral Services Hcp (1200m) at Sandown on Sunday. The champ reigns supreme. Lonhro showed in Saturday's Chelmsford Stakes (1600m) at Randwick that he will be the benchmark for other gallopers to aspire this Spring. He won the Group 2 event by a clear margin of 2 1/4 lengths, leaving some fine horses many lengths behind him. Darren Beadman had Lonhro in 4th place coming to the turn before cruising to the front and having the race in their keeping a long way from the post.

Quiet As continued Octagonal's recent winning success as a sire, scoring a brilliant 5 1/4 length victory in the Lindemans Salinger Mdn Hcp (1350m) at Wyong on Wednesday. The filly's dam, Broann, is by 1986 Melbourne Cup winner At Talaq and is certainly bred for stardom.

Hosannah will be second-up in the Group 3 Tattersalls - Tramway Hcp (1400m) at Randwick. A winning week for Octagonal-sired runners was topped off by the victories of Porteos at Canberra on Friday and Croft at Kembla Grange on Saturday. Porteos had been running very consistently in the ACT over the past few months and won the Golden Wattle Mdn Plte (1600m) by 1 1/4 lengths. Croft started her career in the best possible fashion, taking out the Gymea Bowling Club Mdn Plte (1200m) by 3/4 of a length, a good effort from barrier 12.

Friday, 30 August
The Big O
has produced another potential star with Jessphine leading all the way to brilliantly win by four lengths in the Princess Teresina Hcp (1200m) at Eagle Farm on Wednesday. Considering this was her first start, she can only get better with racing and will definitely be one to keep an eye on in coming weeks. Dandyish looked above average when winning on debut by 1.5 lengths at Ballarat on 18th August and appears set to carry on his winning way in the Publicans Hcp-C1 (1500m) at Sale on Tuesday. A big future has been planned for the colt with the Spring Champion Stakes at Randwick a target, before moving on to the Caulfield Guineas and Victoria Derby. Noel Callow has the ride from barrier 9.

Little is known about Tully Cello with the filly having not appeared at the official trials, so her debut in the Home Straight Enclosure Hcp (1000m) at Werribee on Sunday will be viewed with interest. It can be assumed that she has a deal of ability with connections bringing her to a metropolitan class event first-up. Andrew Findlay has the ride from barrier 7.
At the Randwicks barrier trials on Friday, O'Mars is in heat 7 and Occidental in heat 8,
Tuesday, 27 August
Lonhro was gallant in defeat on Saturday in the Group 2 San Miguel - Warwick Stakes (1400m) at Warwick Farm, succombing to Defier by a short neck. The blistering speed up front may not have suited Lonhro who generally likes to be settled before unleashing a final sprint. Factional's was an enormous run in the Toy Show Quality Hcp (1400m) at Warwick Farm, coming from 14th on the turn to be beaten only 1.5 lengths in fourth place. The mare can be followed with confidence next start.

Darren Beadman has the ride from barrier 6.
Factional ran well last start to finish only 3.4 lengths from the winner over the unsuitable distance of 1200m at Randwick on 10th August and looks a strong hope in the Toy Show Quality Hcp (1400m) at Warwick Farm. The mare showed a lot of promise last preparation and will appreciate the extra 200m here. Darren Beadman will ride from barrier 13. Jewel Time improved last start when 10th beaten only 5.8 lengths at Newcastle on 10th August and connections have given the gelding the opportunity to improve further by entering him in the 1500m Tyco Fire Monitoring Mdn Plte at Newcastle on Saturday. George Scimone has the ride from barrier 12 and will claim 3kg.
Monte Peak has been entered for the same race at Newcastle and is coming off a 7th at Hawkesbury on 8th August. Dandyish
showed why he has been nominated for this year's Caulfield Guineas and Victoria Derby with a debut 1.5 length win in the J.P. Conaughton Mdn Plate (1400m) at Ballarat on Sunday. The colt will be one to following in the coming weeks. Hosannah finished 5th when resuming in the Group 2 Bankstown Sports Club Premiere Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill on Saturday. Earlier this year, Factional won two races in succession before running second in the Group 3 Adrian Knox Stakes (2000m) at Randwick. While this distance may be shorter than ideal, she does have a touch of class which will take her a long way in this race. Premiership-winning jockey Corey Brown will ride from barrier 17.

He may not have raced for nearly six months and is not yet fully fit, but you would have hardly noticed as Lonhro raced away with the Group 3 P.J. Gallagher's Missile Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill on Saturday. Darren Beadman had the brilliant galloper in sixth place on the turn before releasing the breaks as Lonhro went on to score by 3 3/4 lengths. The frightening reality for his future rivals is that he has a lot of scope for improvement fitness wise. In other results from recent days, Porteos ran 3rd at Canberra on Friday in the Delta Pines Stud Mdn Plate (1400m). Hosannah is coming off a fine run in the Doncaster Hcp and should find the class easier to handle in the Establishment Hotel Emancipation Stakes (1600m) at Randwick on Saturday. Even though she finished 12th last start, Hosannah was only 4.8 lengths behind winner Sunline and suffered interference at the 200m mark. She drops back to fillies and mares class here and looks very hard to beat. Darren Beadman will ride from barrier 2.
John Hawkes has entered Omens, who was an unlucky fourth last start, for the same event. The filly struck interference near the post in the Group 2 Queen Of The Turf (1500m) at Rosehill on 23rd. This will be her third run from a spell and with continued improvement she looms as a strong chance. Corey Brown will ride from barrier 12.
Orthopaedic returns to metropolitan racing after a fast-finishing third at Murray Bridge on 3rd April. He will line up in the John Phillips Hcp (1460m) at Cheltenham on Saturday. Orthopaedic has been consistent to date with a win and four placings from eight starts. The gelding has drawn barrier 5 and will have Darren Holland aboard.
Camilleon has been entered for the Coogee Bay Boutique Apartments/Medina Apartments Mdn Plte (1200m) at Tamworth on Monday, where she will make her debut. The filly has had three barrier trials, all at Rosehill and the last of which was on 19th March when 8th. Camilleon has drawn barrier 4 with a jockey yet to be notified.
Montreal ran a nice race last start when 4th at Newcastle over 1500m on 30th March and will again race at that track on Saturday in the Enfield Motor Auctions Mdn Plte (1300m). Melanie Manktelow has the ride from barrier 10.
In midweek race results, Ares ran 3rd over 1900m at Canterbury on Thursday night, Classy Affair debuted with a 5th at Matamata over 1400m on Wednesday and Prince Georgios was 8th at Pinjarra over 1300m. Capto was scratched from Moonee Valley on Thursday night.

Factional was far from disgraced last Saturday in the Group 1 AJC Australian Oaks (2400m) at Randwick, finishing in 6th place, not all that far behind the placegetters. The filly maintained 6th placing for the majority of the race in what was her toughest test to date.
Sir Henry showed a return to for at Kembla Grange on Saturday with a 2nd in the Thoroughbred Publishing Hcp-C1 (1500m). The gelding made up ground in the straight, but could not overhaul the winner and was beaten 1 1/2 lengths.
Also racing at Kembla Grange was Aucash For All, who finished 9th in the Aimer Racing Weekly Plate-C1 (2000m).

Ares will be dropping significantly in class when he contests the MAA-Arrive Alive Hcp (1900m) at Canterbury on Thursday night. Ares' last start was a superb 4th in the Listed Carbine Club Stakes (1600m) at Randwick on 1st April, at the big odds of 50/1. On that run, he appears very hard to beat here. Corey Brown will ride from barrier 5.
Capto is another that is dropping in class, but she may not get a run after being drawn as the first emergency in the Gillies Country Bakers Hcp (2040m) at Moonee Valley on Thursday night. Capto had a visit to Sydney last start and finished 8th in the Group 1 Arrowfield Stakes (2000m) at Rosehill on 23rd March. She was beaten just less than five lengths on that occasion behind classy performers Sixty Seconds, Hosannah and Quays. The filly has drawn the outside barrier of 15 and Damien Oliver will ride.

Classy Affair
